Older drivers
I do not understand the shift against older drivers.Bowe in my opinion is still the best driver in the series. He was on pole at Bathurst & leading with another older driver until beset by car trouble.Gentleman Jim is still as good as anyone & better than most despite his age.The Stone Bros. have opted for experience over youth by signing Ingall.

yeah there is alot of talent and experience floating around and the fact that it is going to waste is very dissapointing and im talking in the form of co-drivers for bathurst. The teams as you said are opting for youth over experience

But the older guys wont be fast generally if they do no miles all season.
I am a fan of the talents of Andrew Miedecke, and one past team owner was quite critical of Miedecke, saying he was 'past it' and going slower each year, as justification for hiring the equivalent of a school kid. You put these guys in cars, and let them fiddle with them a bit, they will go as fast if not faster than the regular guys... Terry Wyhoon is another case in point, 3rd fastest at Bathurst in the 30 lapper in a 5 year old DJR Falcon... slower only than the L1 Falcon of Youlden and L2 Commodore of Wakefield. He is an older guy, but an incredible talent given the mileage he gets each year I dont subscribe to teh view that letting inexperienced guys in all positions is the most risk-free of activities |

I agree about 'Mad Andy', he didn't seem all that impressive in his drive at the 500 this year, but that was in a dog of a car. Put Andy in a good car and he would still be quick. But I suppose that could be said of a lot of guys.

There is another reason 'against' older drivers - salary!
Younger drivers - less experienced (even if damn good) threfore cheaper - older drivers know their worth and consequently you pay for that and their name. |

You cant throw someone in a car with 20 laps testing and expect them to be quick straight away.
The young guys can be fast, but are they safe, are they burning the guts out of the tyres? If I were presenting a marketing proposal at a sponsor, would I prefer to show a Bathurst veteran with a strong history of experience, a good pair of hands, or a kid with dreams of beating Skaife and the car is treated accordingly. |

Not just the young ones.
A certain ex-F1 champion has a reputaiton for being extremely hard on gear boxes - destroying more than a couple during his stints with various teams... |

He still thinks he is in the Williams though and that the teams he drives for have the same kind of budget too...

Terry Wyhoon/Des Wall in the Kitome/Lubrimaxx/D&V Wall Contracting Falcon AU.... sounds pretty nice to me...
A top 10 contender for the Bathurst race, assuming its NOT the Colourscan car |
