Antonelli showed good pace last season already, looks like he can repeat the double (Italian and ADAC).

Camara really impressed me! Let's see how he will do in Italy but compared to the other Prema rookie Wharton he was a big step ahead.

Forty eight years ago this weekend, I went to my first race meeting at Thruxton. Top billing went to the thunderous, fire breathing European Formula 5000 championship. Fastest lap shared by Derek Bell and Teddy Pilette at an average speed of 117.8mph was 1:12.0. Today at Thruxton, as part of the TOCA package, the fastest lap set by the British Formula Four contender Alexander Dunne in a single seater considered the first rung on the single seater ladder was 1:10.848. Progress eh!

Absolutely, it's just that I am not sure which is more surprising-that skinny tyred junior single seaters with a 1400 cc engine (albeit turbocharged) are now lapping at the same pace as the big winged, fat slicked, V8 engined behemoths that I watched in my youth or that I have been going to Thruxton for nearly half a century ! From memory the Formula Ford lap record in 1974 was about 1:26.

It's worth noting that pretty much all of the internals are far more developed now too, from the semi-auto clutch & gearbox to the suspension and even the tyres are strides ahead of what they were in the 70s...and chuck carbon fibre lightness on top of that too
