Felipe Massa
So what happened? We were told that the fast-but-erratic driver we remembered from 2002 had matured and grown during his year as a test driver at Maranello. But I must say that I've been deeply unimpressed by Massa's performances in testing and races so far this year. The idea of him being groomed as Schuey's heir seems laughable.

If your unimpressed by him, whats your thoughts on Fisi?
Massa has shown his more experienced team-mate the way so far, and i don't see that changing soon! Last edited by Mr V; 21 Mar 2004 at 20:40. |

Fisi has unimpressed so far, but Massa really hasn't been brilliant either. He can definitly throw in a quick lap but his consistency is rather lacking. He also has the added experience of driving that '03 chassis before as well.

He managed a point today, which isn't bad considering everyone above him should've had the machinery to be beat the Sauber and he's beating his team-mate, what more is wanted!!!

Massa had a clutch problem during the entire race. It caused him his off as well. I notice he moves his head much less in the car than he did in 2002.
He seems to be remarkably quick, if Fisi is anything to go by. |

I am fairly well impressed. Key for me is that he is beating his teammate. His teammate is vastly more experienced on top of that.
He did manage to get a point today and that is more than his teammate did too. I think in a couple more races with this car, Felipe will impress all. |

But his team-mate is also notoriously inconsistent and vulnerable to loss of morale.

Imho, you just deslike the guy.. No matter what he does in the track, you will always say he's doing something wrong.
He's wild, goes off, spins but still manages to outqualify his highly rated team mate and score points. What else do you want? Massa 2-0! Last edited by DieRitter; 21 Mar 2004 at 23:17. |

I donb't dislike young Felipe at all. I simply haven't seen in him, either in 2002 or this year (yet), anything to suggest he is a potential world champion and saviour of Ferrari in the post-Schumacher era, which a lot of people think he is. That disparity of perception puzzles me.
Yes, he has thus far outperformed Fisichella. But Fisichella himself is having a lacklustre season which has not been the career revival many had hoped. |

I don't think he's great either. But his raw speed shows a lot of potential.
I believe Mark and Alonso are WDC material... although they make mistakes like anyone else. wAlonso in qualifying and Mark with his poor start. But that's normal... i've seen plenty of that in 30years of F1. |

While i'm not a fan of Massa & don't think he'll ever be something special in the world of F1 i must say i'm suprised how he's handled the challenge from Fisi, maybe this season can be the making of Massa's career.

I don't see why Frentzen still isn't at Sauber. He did the best he could with the machinery he had. Frentzen/Massa is a good pairing IMO.
It's like a World Cup soccer match: Massa (Brazil) 2 vs Fisichella (Italy) 0 |

The trhead is split it seems. Some of us think he's just merely good, other's think he's a nobody!
If i may throw my pennies worth in, he clearly has a helluva lot of pace and judging by the early laps in Sepang, he can certainly overtake/race wheel to wheel with others. Now for a F1 driver that is still pretty rare! Remember Brundle lauding his overtaking move at Imola '02 as well. Hmmm i do believe it was Fisichella he overtook that day in one of the only moves or that race too? Reckon we should give him more time before writing him off. Mind you i'm bit biased, i like hard chargers and spectacular drivers, not percentage playing sunday drivers! If he goes off now and again, so what, it makes good tv! I risk a battering here, but on speed and basic talent, i see no reason why we will not be able to include him in the Alonso, Webber, Montoya, Kimi bracket before too long. He is a little like a younger JPM or Gonzo Rodriguez. Never give up and press on style! |

He's been better than Fisichella so far by a country mile, which is worth praise it itself. He's acheived the results despite the offs as well, and he hasn't lost out on results due to those occasional mistakes. There are few other drivers who always give 110% at all points of the race, and it makes him great fun to watch. I'm starting to warm to him.
As for Frentzen - he's had his day. Heidfeld generally outperformed him, all of his points-scoring races were fortunate, and he crashed on his own on lap 1 at Monaco (can you imagine the stick Felipe would get for that?) |

One mistake! All year! Ye gods. You really don't like H2F, do you? It is easy to say that your favourite is better if you dismiss the team-mate's best drives as 'lucky'.

The Engines are the same development as those in the Ferrari because of the regs this year.
The Tyres? Bridgestone appear to have amde improvements this year but I thought Sauber were on Michelins last year. |
