Monaco GP: Come say hello
Ok,
So who's making the pilgrimage to Monaco this year? Well for those of you who are, I'd like to extend an invite to you to come and visit the team in our salubrious paddock. (The Portier underground car park: To find it follow the circuit to Portier and then turn left instead of right into the tunnel, the garage is somewhere on your left.) We have to fly out at dawn tomorrow to present our race licences before the Automobile Club de Monaco's 5PM deadline so I won't be able to respond to any PM's after today. But feel free to wander along and say hello without prebooking. FYI We are racing at 6PM Saturday and Midday Sunday (French time, less an hour in the UK) so look out for us in case we make the Sky digital coverage, which I guess is a possibility... Cheers Rick "Did I tell you I was racing in Monaco this weekend" P |

Rick: to you and everyone in the team, all the very best for this weekend. I'm sure you will lap up every second of what should be a wonderful experience. It must be a lifetime's ambition come true and you richly deserve it.
I think we'll all be thinking of you when we're watching the F1 qualifying. "The jammy git - he's there, and I'm here." There are the usual two races, yeah? What time are you out on track? Is it straight into qualifying or do you get a 15-minute test or something beforehand? |

unfortunately, due to prior commitments (got to wash my hair, dahling), myself and bar babe won't be able to make it (although i seem to recall a 'hey, let's go to monaco' conversation when drunk in a travleodge one night?) to be official groupies.
nethertheless, best of british, put some italians into the harbour (do they supply life rafts in v6's?), and don't forget your passport bella 'spending a weekend locked in room revising again' |

Bella you're not coming??? But I might need a date for the Grand Prix ball on Saturday night... oh well gonna have to take a mechanic with me instead I guess and put up with pulling Kylie Minogue once I get there...
Thanks for your kind words team, I shall endeavour to discover if Italians float... Our official schedule is as follows (all French times) Program Date Time Description Thursday, May 23rd 2002 6:00am CIRCUIT CLOSED from 11:00am to 12:00am 1st F1 free practices from 1:00pm to 2:00pm 2nd F1 free practices from 3:30pm to 4:10pm 1st Renault Sport Clio Trophy 2002 practices from 4:40pm to 5:20pm 1st Porsche Pirelli SuperCup qualifying practices from 6:20pm to 7:00pm 2nd Renault Sport Clio Trophy 2002 practices 7:20pm CIRCUIT OPENED Friday, May 24th 2002 7:00am CIRCUIT CLOSED from 9:15am to 10:00am 1st F3000 qualifying practices from 10:30am to 11:15am 2nd F3000 qualifying practices from 11:45pm to 12:45pm 2nd Porsche Pirelli SuperCup practices 1:00pm CIRCUIT OPENED Saturday, May 25th 2002 6:00am CIRCUIT CLOSED from 9:00am to 9:45am 3rd F1 free practices from 10:15am to 11:00am 4th F1 free practices from 1:00pm to 2:00pm F1 qualifying practices 4:00pm Start of the 5th GRAND PRIX « MONACO F3000 » (26 cars - 50 laps) 6:00pm Start of the RENAULT SPORT CLIO TROPHY 2002 (26 cars - 12 laps) 7:00pm CIRCUIT OPENED Sunday, May 26th 2002 6:00am CIRCUIT CLOSED from 9:30am to 10:00am F1 free practices 10:20am Start of the PORSCHE PIRELLI SUPERCUP (26 cars - 16 laps) 11:15am « Parade »of Drivers 12:00 pm Start of the 2nd RENAULT SPORT CLIO TROPHY 2002 race (12 laps) 2:00pm Start of th 60th GRAND PRIX AUTOMOBILE DE MONACO « F1 » (26 cars- 78 laps) 6:00pm CIRCUIT OPENED So we get two lots of 40 min qualifying sessions... and 2 races. No testing, no practice. Plus the Clios are a heavy car so they eat their tyres, spend too long learning the circuit on your qualifying rubber and you'll have nothing left for that big lap... and then you won't make the grid... only 26 cars start, yet 30 try to qualify... Rick"Not at all excited"P |

Feel perfectly free to abuse the French and avoid all the armco bits...at the same time if you're not too busy.

It looks really good to see Clio race followed by Grand Prix on the timetable and I know both boys are really looking forward to this. Rick has been unbearably puppyish all week - talk about excited!!!
I just hope they both enjoy themselves and the circuit and keep away from those armcos and come home safe and sound and with big grins. |

Les, when you say "puppyish", do you mean he keeps waving his willy at everyone, shagging your leg and peeing everywhere he shouldn't?

Word from Monaco.
All safe and cars in one piece. Rick qualified 21st and a bit disappointed, Paul 27th which should make him last on the grid and really chuffed (3 don't make it) |

Well done Paul and Rick
I might be going to do the Monaco GP weekend next year if all things come together as hoped... so you'll have to tell us all about it! |

Just heard from Paul that Rick caused the safety car to come out - ok so that's another question for Monday.

final race and combined results are Rick 9th and Paul 13th (with a 360 spin!!)
from the Clio trophy site The fine performances of Aldo BRESCIA and the British driver Rick PEARSON, who finished respectively in 8th and 10th places, should also be mentioned. Well done boys - you should be chuffed to pieces. |

IT WAS MONSTER
Would attach an image but I am much too stupid to work out how to do that... maybe Les will if we ask her nicely. You'll have to read the press release, but I am particularly proud of 4 dynamic passing moves in race 1 (of which only one resulted in the other guy smashing his car to pieces in a manner akin to one a X-wing fighter bumping into the Death Star). But it's ok, because he was German. Sorry, I mean because he was ok (and in the wrong...) I am incredibly tired and still more than a little over excited. Finished 10th in that second race which gave me 9th on aggregate. Rick |

Sadly we didn't discover if Italians floated but I think we can categorically say that Germans don't bounce...
Rick (Yorkshiremen huh? Well not really a surprise ...) |

Hiya everyone!
Just the most amazing coolest whackiest five days ever! How often does a driver get to hit the barriers full on and in the same moment choose a new watch from the jewellers on the other side of said barriers?... bizarre!!! Here's a couple of images from race one... 1) First corner you can pick out Rick (33), then a couple of Italians (15 and 31) then me (no I don't have orange flashing lights on the top of my car!)... I like this piccie as it has all three Brits in it.. Ian Khan is over on the right in car 10. 2) Entrance to the swimming pool area... ok I don't do this often but.... note that 15 and 31 are now behind me... the kerb on the inside of the Lowes hairpin is high but very useable for passing! I should be receiving a CD of images from race two later this week, so at the risk of boring you I'll try and post a couple from that too. cheers Paul |
