Commentary Box Bingo
In honour of the wonderful commentary we've been getting all year I propose a game of Commentary Box Bingo - a game for the whole family!
The rules; Choose any five phrases listed here (more expressions are welcome too) - tick them off when you hear them - and when you've collected them, yell out the name of the commentator who gave you the most cliches (NC will suffice for Neil Crompton!) * "Ticket to the end game" * "Out of the box" * any mention of "marbles" * "pointy end" * Calling the drivers by their Initials (CL, GT, JB...) * Any instance of the commentators mistaking one driver for his teammate * "dialled in" * Mark Skaife reffering to himself in the third person * Any mention of this being the "best series in the world". An extra point if those words come from the mouth of TC. Any other cliches (including visual cliches) are welcome - so post 'em here and get ready for a whole new dimension to watching the telecast this weekend! |

What about Neil Compton’s love of the word "normalise" as in "driver xyz is waiting for his tire to normalise".
Must be honest it drives me up the (*^)% wall! |

"Baptism of fire" is an Oastler classic rarely heard these days. Maybe it's worth two sculls due to it's rarity?
Plus there are a couple more classics ............ "As they try to get 600+hp to the road/ground" "They're going to make a roll centre adjustment" |

Count how many times Crompton uses one of the following phrases:
"Number crunching" or "Crunching some numbers". |

This thread has great potential. It has made my day.
"put the blowtorch on him" Mark Oastler. "a heap of understeer" Crompton. "get temperature into tyres" (impossible) Crompton |

It's not strictly commentary box stuff but is has happened in there.
What about whenever anyone is asked a question, like, "did the car perform well today?", they answer, "yes no it was ..... " Yes No, what kind of inane idiot answer is that? Last edited by Dazz; 1 Dec 2004 at 00:09. |

Slightly OT for a minute, but someone at work mentioned the "yes no" phenomenon, and it's a lot more widespread that you might think... an American friend of the work colleague mentioned that it's an Australian habit that we all do to some degree when asked a question. Richo seems particularly good at it....
Anyhow back to the topic... wasn't there a Mark Oastler drinking game where you would take a shot whenever he said "maximum attack", "maximum pressure" etc? I always love the mid-telecast pee-break, covered by the usual "let's go on board and listen to the 5-litre V8 for a lap"... where I always picture the guys abandoning the commentary box for a quick smoke, leak, drink, feed etc. |

Actually, isn't Leigh Diffey the main offender here? And thank God Mike Raymond's not around with his stupid nicknames. "Baby-Faced Assassin" - oh puhlease. Bruce Moxon |

Not a good one by any means, but what of the incessant mentions of 'the green eyed monster' in late 2001 and 2002

And just after the Hot Lap of (insert circuit name) when Cromley always says "it's a great ride..."
always reminds me of a visit to the 1989 Melbourne Cup when the winning jockey was making his acceptance speech and told the assembled masses "and thanks to my girlfriend for helping me with my riding..." SURE!!!!!!!!!!! |

Neil also likes talking about the "fuel burn"
And every time they cross to Daryl in the pits he starts with "it's interesting..." Last edited by gts300kw; 1 Dec 2004 at 04:06. |
