DTM 2008 Off-season: News & Rumours

According to Touringcartimes, there will be another year of DTM with Audi, but without Ralf Shumacher. Well, they don't really need him, do they? It would be nice to see him in a new DTM-lexus or something.

I doubt that we will see any new makes in the DTM next year if the rumors are true with the new rules.

Its amazing that woman looks like a human being on those pics, in real life she's frightening.

I don't think there will be new makes next year, but with the new rules in 2009, there might be some new makes if the changes are big enough.

Any gossips about new reg's? Mates it can't stay like it is now! If they will not let private teams make their own decisions this series will be dead by 2010.

V8 Supercars, Brazilian Stock Cars and NASCARs are good examples. Let them breath!

Yes, but with some spice, better drivers and show and hopefully a new manufacturer or two joining the show.

Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Alfa Romeo sounds pretty good for a 22-car field under those rules and with the current drivers + some new in my ears.

Will BMW switch to a silhouette series? I have the impression they prefer production based racing cars and customer racing.

If the DTM manages to get big enough, like BTCC in the 90'ies for ex., they would.

I don't believe they will switch to DTM. They're to pleased with the way things are going for them in WTCC right now..

And are selling lots of cars to privateers for national championships.

That's why I think the DTM should allow cars that are built by independent teams into the series. With less aero and a standart chassis, it should be possible for privateers to enter the series without factory backing. A BMW-privateer could have their engine built by some specialist company like Mader, I think, if BMW wouldn't want to join...

I agree (like V8 Supercars, NASCAR, S2000), but I am afraid Mercedes (and Audi?) wants to keep it a factory series.

It is allowed for privateers to enter the series without factory backing. I believe Mücke Motorsport has done so last year. However, any manufacturer in DTM won't be selling so much cars to privateer times as BMW does in WTCC, because these regs are only used in DTM, whereas S2000 is used in almost every national touring car series.
