Broadspeed Twins - inseparable?
While I have been browsing through my old photos recently (thanks to 10/10ths), I noticed that if I photographed a Broadspeed car, the other one was inevitably not far away. The cars were always immaculately turned out and were the ones to beat in 60s/70s saloon battles.
Here is a selection showing how evenly matched they were, starting in the Anglia days, with Anita Taylor leading John Fitzpatrick at the Silverstone GP meeting in 67. |

Or it might have been the other way round.
Anyway, in the Motor Show Brands meeting in 68 Chris Craft leads Fitzpatrick at Druids. |

Later in the same race they are still together, ahead of the minis through Woodcote.

And finally, a month later up at Oulton Fitzpatrick leads Craft, but not by much.

Dave M, more great photos for us to view.
If I remember correctly they were as close as this through most of the Angia and Escort days in the sixties. I have photos showing them at the Motor Show 200 of 1969 with the positions reversed for a change, but I think CC got ahead in the end. I also remember JF apologising to Ray Calcutt after a race at Brands Hatch for putting a (very small) dent in the boot of his Fraser Imp during the first lap sort out, cannot imagine any of the current lot doing that these days! |

Broadspeed Escort, 1968, this one was driven by rallye-driver Roger Clark at the 6 hours race at the Ring, beating all the Minis, great time.

Does anyone remember the day when Anita Taylor got the Broadspeed Anglia and herself on the front pages of the national papers?
It was the day after the August Bank Holiday meeting at Brands Hatch and Anita had written off the car after a huge roll going down Paddock Hill, good reason for Fleet Streets finest to put "scary pictures" on the front page, accompanied, of course, with a "glamour" shot of Anita. The reason for the headlines was that, as she was rescued from the car by Brands finest marshalls, her first words were "Have I marked my face". They must have been bemused, but Anita was really worried as she was getting married the following Saturday and did not want to walk down the aisle looking as though she had just completed ten rounds with Henry Cooper. Dave M, do you have any photos of Ralph Broad racing (usually in Minis), as I seem to remember John Fitzpatrick saying in an interview many years ago that he spent most of his time watching races from behind bushes, trees etc as he was not the best of drivers? And to continue the Broadspeed thread, what about the Group 2 Escorts, Capri etc, which brings us back to Dave Matthews, who if he didn't marry Anita Taylor, also ended a fine racing career whilst driving for Broadspeed in that terrible accident at the Silverstone GP meeting |

Broadspeed Escorts
Hi Guys
Have just joined the forum, love the pic's of the Broadspeed Escorts. If anyone else has any I'd be interested to see them. Shame neither of those two cars seem to have survived. Jas. |

......well, "boyzee" that second picture of Anita actually rolling her car, i must of been standing next to you when you took the picture......that is exactly the image i have had in my head for years......also remember the horrible sound of the roof in contact with the tarmac sliding down Paddock Hill for about 50 yds.......we used to be so close to the action then, not like now!!.....
