Mercedes, BMW in the BTCC

Just been reading an article which says that a manufacturer rep from one of this years teams inists that there will be another rear wheel drive car on the grid next year. With few manufacturers having this powertrain, the obvious first choice for everyone would be BMW, or remotely possible Mercedes. Who else has a rear wheel drive car in their range?

How big a boost would this be for the BTCC? BMW, who said no to the 2002 ETCC, imagine if they said they wanted to be in the 2002 BTCC!

Or maybe a factory Lexus to go with Erdos Lexus from this year.

I also picked up on this, but I don't think its a factory Lexus as the source said another rear wheel drive entry.

I really carn't see it being Merc with thier DTM involvement, unless its a private entry?

It would be nice to see de Germans back, evan if it was just so the MG's could battle it out with the BM's.

I predict a 5/1 outright win for MG in 2002

NOT BMW. Not after withdrawing from the ETCC.

Gotta be Lexus.

just because there will be another RWD car on the grid does not mean it will be manufacturer supported. There is no reason why a privateer cannot enter a Merc or BMW.

BMW are making cars for the ETCC next season as customer cars so there will be no works teams so a privateer team could enter the BTCC but Lexus GB have strongly hinted they would be joining next season, as well as Totalmotorsport in running the Lexus IS 200.

I think this manufacturer source said it was ANOTHER rear wheel drive car, not the Lexus.
