Dear god this looks like a GD mess, Busch Clash wasn't great but this??? Pitbull pre-race show, half-time break (WTF is that?) with Ice Cube, and a live DJ during cautions? Ummm, they know you won't really hear the DJ if cars are running right?
https://racer.com/2022/02/01/insight...-l-a-coliseum/ and the track render, or I hope it's a rendering, pit out but in?? I guess they make the HARD right turn there at around 11 o'clockish? |

I reckon - probably wrongly! - that a big percentage of that race will be under caution. Unless everybody is being really nice to each other!
Someone trying to enter the pit is likely gonna cause a good chunk of the field to fall over each other. Let's hope no one needs to pit... |

I think it will be full field pitting rather than by strategery as everyone likes to say now.

Meanwhile, ESPN seems uninterested in Nascar for South America, and no replacement broadcaster has been announced except in Brazil.

In amongst all the daft thoughts in my head: what if everybody wrecks their cars so their is nobody left to run in the main event?
Could we see something as dumb as the US Formula 1 race from 2005 (might have the year wrong) where only 6 cars took part and pretty much nothing noteworthy happened - unless you count a huge amount of race fans walking out in disgust. |

SRX raced on a quarter-mile oval, with Paul Tracy as touring enforcer. Those cars were no tans, but made it. The Clash will be fine.

The cars aren't even close in comparison and SRX running at a developed track with a history and getting the track set properly isn't even close to the same thing.

I'll watch it, see what occurs. At the speeds they'll be going we shouldn't suffer any Daytona like upside down on fire line crossing carnage!

I'm slighted interested and will try to watch some of this as it's gonna be a least 'an event'.
This has been an interesting twitter follow for me, but they got a nice aerial of the stadium/track. https://twitter.com/RacingAerials/st...126019/photo/1 |

The 1990 Daytona event preceding practice 1 was great, especially before the new cars debut.
Looks SLICK at the start and guys testing ALL the way inside on the curbs. But lots of room cause they split them in to 3 groups, 8 min session each 14s early on but dropped from 16s to start |

They have not shown it well yet but looks like the infield is just for track support. They came in from the Turn 3 opening in the wall from under the stands.
Infield has tires but no teams, cars stage there to leave after the session. Interesting ground rules here |

Yeah, the pits are WELL away from the track itself.
13s after each session has had 2 rounds, track rubbering in well. I could see a low 13 coming later in time trials. Elliot and Larson at the top late, they're both staying outside of the rumbles low and picking up speed. It's been interesting to watch the track mature |

So far so good, I dipped into internet streams to satisfy my curiosity. Saw Harvick being interviewed and he clearly thinks it's great.
As far as I can work out must be no pitstops in the race as that would mean leaving the track through the tunnel. Unless that can be handled under caution with a man or light to wave a car back out the tunnel onto track when there's a gap in traffic. I am assuming that the race distance is short enough that the tyres should be good to go from start to finish and the tank will hold enough juice - fuel consumption at these speeds must be economical compared to going full chat around a Superspeedway. |

Yeah, no free stops during the races. Think they only get a few sets of tires so they won't need changes during, 50 lap Q races and I think the main show is 125 later.
Missed early but LQ1 and 2 weren't wreck fests but fewer cars than the main show coming up |

Ok, I was wrong Ty Dillon has screwed up the last half of LCQ2. He's just an ass and needs to be parked, just pushing and spinning everyone for zero gain and from way back
The new car and composite bodywork is GREAT though, bumping but no tires down. Kurt Busch is gonna kill someone in the pits tonight, and I think it's Ty Dillon, effing menace. I hate both Busch's but that was bs |

Start of the main event went well, 15 laps to catch the tail end of the group
