Rossi once again blitzed the entire field to win the Italian GP in front of his fanatical fans. However, Yamaha once again showed promise as first Checa early on and then Biaggi led for at least half the race before Rossi pulled ahead and romped away to another win, his fourth this year.

Ukawa and Checa duelled for most of the race, and eventually Ukawa came out to finish third.

Of the rest, Barros beat team-mate Capirossi to the flag while Abe came from the rear of the grid to take 7th place. Laconi also had to come back through the field after a poor start to finish 8th.

Melandri won on home soil in a thrilling 250cc race, but he had to fend off a strong challenge from Locatelli and Battaini, who were there behind him all race. However, after Battaini and Locatelli clashed, Melandri was left alone out front.

Nieto came from his shocking grid position with a superb charge through the field to take 3rd position.

The first non-Aprilia was Porto on the Yamaha down in 7th while the first Honda was that of Rolfo in 8th, who struggled all weekend.

In the best 125cc race I've seen in quite a while, Poggiali basically won on 'home' soil in a thrilling contest in which the first 15 bikes for most of the race were covered by only 3 seconds and the race wasn't decided until the last lap.

Ui came from 4th to second on the front straight, using the draft to perfection while Nieto took his first ever podium with third.

Aoki crashed while McWilliams had an engine seize up, which scared the willies out of him.

I think 2003 will be far more interesting. This season is boring, its why I prefer the 125cc and 250cc races.
