Blue flag
Can someone please explain the blue flag especially when it is used against a leading production car when approached by a Touring car in the sprint race.
It seems unfair and unsporting to me. |

If the flag is held stationary, it just means 'another competitor is following close behind'. It does not mean 'you should move over' or anything like that, it's just in case you haven't been using your mirrors

The blue flag is only advisory.
As the BTCC organisers do not seem have the intelligence to run both classes together at any time during qualifying, neither sets of drivers have much idea of the lines that the other classes are likely to take through the corners. Given some of the speed differentials it seems common sense to give at least a stationary blue to the production classes just to remind them what is approaching. This is especially true if the production cars are in a dice of their own - eg the Boardman/Cate dice in the main race. Do the BTC cars really need 1.5 hours of free practice as well as 0.5 hours of qualifying. At one point I started to lose the will to live... |
