Question about F1 regulations
Regarding the rule that states that cars must have flat bottoms, is their anything to stop someone from putting in a NACA duct under the car? Technically it would still be a flat bottom.
Or maybe the exhaust could be directed underneath the car, for more downforce. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say |

The regulations are rather precise in some areas, and I believe underneath the car is one of them. You can look up the rules at www.fia.com if you want to. As such, some teams used to run their exhausts through the diffuser at the back of the car to increase airflow underneath and therefore make the car lower, faster, etc. But now they run the exhausts out the top to improve airflow in other areas.

The rules state that there are not to be any holes in the underside of the car. Apart from six precisely placed hole in the skid block to measure its depth.
The reason teams have stopped exiting the exhorts through the diffuser is because when the gasses pass into the diffuser there is an increase in downforce, this is good under constant acceleration. However, when breaking and changing down through the gears there are less gasses passing through the diffuser. In summation the effects of the gasses tended to give unpredictable levels of downforce for the driver and giving him les confidence in the car. Thus they were changed. Dion |

Sorry for being a bit out of context, but the rules as available at fia.com may be inaccurate in some areas. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 2001 max car width 2000mm? Article 3.3 from the FIA web site says 1800, which I believe was from the 2000 reg.

The narrow width cars were brought in at the same time as the grooved tyres.
The FIA wrong? Never |

The reason I taught it was back to 2m was because they look more... "normal" than last year's "caught in the elevator door" look cars. Or maybe I watched one too many episodes of Wacky Racers.
