That's wonderful, Es! The original "Pink Pig" was slated by some as the ugliest looking sportscar ever - well, to my mind, I find it anything but. The Audi looks superb in similar livery - if only someone would race it like that at Le Mans - marvellous!!

I just picked this up at the Sebring Historic races. It is the Paul's model art Pink Pig. 1/18 scale. The box is painted l;ike the car, and when you open it, it goes "oink, oink" and then plays some very authentic 917 engine noise.

It looks to me like they got the shape just right. The color looks good too and the markings are spot on. This model is so nice that it sits on the left of my desk and I drive the Pig in SCGT, at least until I get a models of something I like better. Then I'll try to download that into the game).

Check out the detail on this baby. They even got the color of the inside of the bodywork right. I appears a little blue in this photo because of (A) the lighting and (B) I don't know how to take a decent picture. But I have seen 917's up close, and even sat in Rodrigeuz' Daytona winner, and Paul's got to color of the composite material spot on.
They also have all the details right on the engine. It is utterly disgusting it is so nice. |

As you can see, they really did the interior right. The belt have little metal buckles, the shift linkage is in place. You can't see it in this picture, but there are the proper chassis tube, petals and instruments. It is very nicely done. disgusting.

Here is a little better view of the engine. Notice the little blue things where the engine joins the gearbox. Those are the ignition coils with their wiring. You cannot see where the wires go to in the photo, because the distributor is partially obscured by the airboxes, but it is there.
The spare is in it's proper place and notice the wheel changing tool on top of the spare. The spare was originally behind the engine and up against the inside of the bodywork, up very high. It was moved forward to get it lower and closer to the center of the car. In front of that is the oil tank. I think the 917 carried something like 22 gallons of oil, the exact number of which escapes me (cybers would know), but that is alot of weight to have at either end of the car, so Porsche wisely kept it close to the cars's center. On the right side of the engine, on the rocker sills, are the fuel pumps and their plumbing. In front of them is the feul filler neck. To the left of the gearbox is the oil catch tank. At the extreme rear of the car are two boxes. They were put there to satisfy the FIA's rule that the car had to have a specified amount of storage space, like a briefcase. Like you are going to drive to the local food mart in your pink pig and stock up on beer and pretzels! They didn't want the cars to get too far from road car origins, so this, in addition to two seat, was required. These were made out of Porsche's extermely lightweight composite material, years before composites were used by other makers. There is just so much detail in the model that it can't all be possible covered here. The engine is utterly superb on this model. The best I have seen yet, theough the Model Art 917 engines are good. Behind that is the oil tank and it's plumbing. |

Well, ok, one last photo. This is a better pic of the nose. Notice that the grillwork is real screen, not clear plastic with a mesh decal. The headlights even have the correct tape over the headlight cover edges. Insied the bucket is the correct turn signal lights. Notice inside the cockpit that the sholder belts have the correct mounting points.
final verdict; superb. Bravo, Minichamps. |
