The current tyre regulations are dangerous

The crash of Räikkönen has proven that the current tyre regulations are dangerous. He blocked his tyre two times with a flat spot as the consequent. This finally caused his suspension to break.

I think the FIA should repeal the ban on changing tyres right immediately. Than drivers can race on the limit, without risking a high speed crash.

the regs aren't dangerous. Kimi flat spotted his tires due to driving errors. Kimi caused the problem.

Kimi killed his own tyres throughout the race, so did Massa, othr drivers managed to bring their tyres home.

I saw similar things happen last year at Spa, when they could change tyres as often as they like.

That tyre situation could have easily happened with the old rules - it was on the last lap of the race.

The cars can now be over-driven again. I like it.

There is more of a possibility of tyre problems. It is still within the acceptable limits of safety IMHO.

yes kimi should have come in but what racing driver would do that on the last lap.. Is there still a reg saying that so much much tread should be left on the tires at the end of the race becauce looking at Alonso's rears it looked like there was nothing left

Kimi was the one who ran wide two or three times and damaged his tyres....nothing to do with the new tyre regs..

This rule is responsible for one of the best seasons we have ever had. The danger is minimal and there were more tyre failures last year actually.

However, I understand that there are those who want the tracks lined with cotton wool, the wheels enclosed and the cars controlled from the pits by a remote control who might see the rule as a massive threat to life.

No there will be no problem as long as there is deemed to be no performance advantage. On many occassions since grooved tyres have been introduced we have seen grooveless tyres be passed OK. Here is one ofthe threads that cover that: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66610

If you think it's dangerous, go and watch golf. Ideally wearing full-budy protection to avoid the risk of being hit by a ball.

Plenty of times in the past, drivers have tried to run that little bit too long with a damaged car. Kimi took that risk again, and it didn't pay off. As mentioned there have been less outright tyre failures this year than last year, which makes sense - now the tyres approach their wear limit once, instead of 3/4 times, and the teams are running harder compounds to adjust to the increased lifespan required.

The USGP is what I am concerned about regarding this rule. Hopefully, atire won't let go in the middle of the banking and send a driver in the wall and to the hospital. The loading the tires take on the banking is too much in my opinion to last 60 laps.

Kimi's problem were caused solely by him, but the rule is taking things a bit too far. This could have been a bad deal, especially if he were 1/2 a second closer to Button or on the fastest part of the track....

fazzaz has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
The safety issues of the tire rule can be debated, but I would think there is little disagreement that the rule on wheel tethers has been a clear improvement. The tether on Kimi's RF wheel quite likely kept the tire from hitting him in the head.

So, if a driver just blocks his tyres two times, he should pay back with a high speed crash? This isn't racing any more. Of course, a driver can always get a puncture. But with the current regulations, the change of getting a puncture is unnecessarily high

We saw Button's tyre blow out and take a Minardi out of the race at Spa last year too, thankfully with no injury to either driver. These things can happen wheteher the tyres are used for a full race or changed during it. Generally, tyre wear and punctures have been quite good this season, bearing in mind that the tyre manufacturers now build a tyre to last qualifying and the race.

But in this instance it was down to McLaren / Kimi that they got into this situation in the first place.

It was down to Kimi flat spotting the tyre that led to vibration that just shook the suspension components to pieces.

The tyre never blew at all.

IMO the tyre's aren't dangerous, it's the team's greed.

I think greed is a bit too strong a word for it.

Will to win is more accurate - and that's what they're there for.

The punctures in Spa were caused by debris.

Ya, they should. Debris is causing all sorts of problems state side as well. He's the one that causes all the yellow flags at indy during the month of May. Every 5 minutes, yellow flag for debris.

Lets just ban F1 - everyone can go fishing instead.

But then we'd need to ban water in case anyone drowns - and overhead powerlines in case a rod causes electrocution.

Ban everything. Everythings dangerous. Quickly, round up the drivers and get them wrapped in cotton wool and a granite shell. There's too much risk, they could be killed. Stupid, dangerous sport.

Gilles Villeneuve must be looking down and thinking how out of hand everything has got since he three wheeled round Zandvoort!
