This will be the race of the year ... can anybody tell me why Boris aint running? Odd for him not to be in a road race at the Glen (and disappointing if it is the case).

"Sweet!" comes to mind. I have a soft spot for Carpentier, so here is hoping it goes well for him.

He should have a good run provided there are no problems in qualifying (the team is out of the top-35). It'll be good to see him in the race after an impressive performance last weekend.

Looks like Boris, Carpentier and Ambrose all won't be making the show. Unless Carpentier has some links to a team with enough points since qualifying was just rained out.

Is NASCAR so soft that it won't run in the rain on a road course?
That is weak. |

Ambrose is use to running in the rain on road courses from his V8 Supercars days.
I agree it is weak if they wont run in the wet |

I dont normaly follow NASCAR, why do they run at the sight of rain? I can understand on the ovals due to the speeds but a road course, I dont get it.
Someone make those fellas some wet tyres |

Isn't it funny, inexperienced drivers in Nextel
Also if they run at the sight of drizzle then how do they get experienced? |

Honestly, I believe NASCAR shouldn't just jump right to points for qualifying rainouts. What about the last completed practice session? This really just burns my butt right now.... |

The #10 Valvoline Dodge is already in the points, Scott Riggs was to sit it out to let Patrick drive. Carpentier is IN. |

That is one inadvertent ray of light in an otherwise pathetic situation.

Indeed.
Do NASCAR not realise the mockery it makes of the series? Nobody with any sense disputes not running ovals in the rain, but running in the rain on road/street courses is like the ultimate challenge. Given NASCAR seem to be into portraying drivers in the paradoxical Everydayman-Superhero mould, well, I fail to see how running in the rain on a road course can do anything but help this cause. Unless, of course, they think it could defeat this image if they were unable to hack the challenge. |

Well, this is the way it is. Nascar DOES NOT run rain tires. And it has nothing to do with the drivers talent. Either accept the fact that you will not see rain tires or go watch whatever series is secondary to Nascar, that you came from.
It is comical to see newbies to nascar trying to change a winning formula. The sport has grown from its start in 1949 to the most popular racing in North America. I enjoy it "as is". If you prefer other type of racing, go watch it. Last edited by muggle not; 11 Aug 2007 at 15:50. |

It would make qualifying unfair running in the wet anyways. The conditions change so much that it'd be a lottery who made the race or not.
My only issue is they don't use practice times to set the starting lineup. Otherwise, fine. No point *****ing about it. To say it is a slant on drivers ability is totally rubbish. I mean, F1 brings out the safety car for rain levels above mild drizzle which is just as annoying. But they aren't worse drivers for it. Last edited by Knowlesy; 11 Aug 2007 at 17:14. |

In my opinion it's strange they have a practice and qualifying session on Friday and two practice sessions on Saturday. In most other series there's qualifying after two or three practice sessions. Do they use the 2nd and 3rd practice session for race setup? |

I do watch plenty of other series. I just don't see the need to not in the rain on road courses, that is all. The other series I watch I have things I disagree with. To disagree with an aspect of a series is not to be denegrating. Your "all or nothing" approach is unnecessary, imo. If nothing ever changed, or was ever questioned, then we would nerver see many positive advances. |

Understand something, "I WILL" defend nascar, since it is my favorite type of racing, when people make disparaging remarks about Nascar being soft or the drivers inexperienced or any other type of derogatory remarks. I do not go in the F1 forums and make remarks about how dull the racing is, etc. Nascar is going to do what "they" think is best for the series.
