Ohlins shocks on a VD
Hi gang,
Need some help, ... trying to mount Ohlins TT44 shocks to the rear of my 2003 Van Diemen 1600, .. the shock mount "pin" is larger then the bushing in the shock eye, .. and I don't want to cut down the pin. Does Ohlins make a bushing to fit the VD?? Has anyone done this before??? Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Curtis RFD curtis@cboggs.com |

Re: Ohlins shocks on a VD
Is the size of the damper eye 3/8? because if so i have had to get the damper pin put on a lathe and turned down from 7/16 to 3/8 so the ohlins will go on. There is no problem turning them down most vd's out there are like that, you have to do exactly the same to fit eibach. the pins are made in the factory 7/16 which is the standard size of a bilstien.

Steve,
Thanks for the reply. You are right, .. but I didn't want to turn the pin down. We are on slick tyres and I've heard of the pin breaking after being turned down. I was hoping Ohlins made a bearing with the proper ID to fit the pin, .. but I've gotten no reply from them. Curtis RFD |

I have always done it that way with cars on slick's and never had a problem. I don't see whay you carn't get a bearing to match the post if you don't want to turn the pin down. perhaps measure the spherical joint and ring gold line or rosejoint

Steve,
Glad to hear you have expeirence with this and no problems. I'm calling around to the bearing makesr now to find one that fits, .. if that doesn't work I'll just turn the pin down. Thanks for your help, Cheers, Curtis RFD |

Steve,
I just spoke to Ohlins USA, .. they have a bearing with the proper ID, . but the OD is a little larger, .. so the eye in the shock has to be machined to fit. I'm going this way since I can keep the larger pin, .. .. and a bigger pin is always good. Thanks, Curtis RFD Last edited by cboggs; 26 Jan 2004 at 18:08. |
