Rockingham Days of Thunder 5th September

Hi, i am thinking of going to this meeting and have never been to Rockingham before. Are the days of thunder meets good? what can i expect to see other than the V8's?

The meetings are mega especially if you have a family. Take the missus, the little boy and the teenage daughter and they will all love it.

I agree it's a great day out and an excellent facility.
I believe that the Formula BMW's(junior single seater)are racing that weekend,although not on the oval.

You will have 2 DOT (ASCAR) races of 60 laps (about 40 mins) and 2 pickup truck races of about 30-40 laps + Stunt displays etc.

Book in advance to save £'s

In the Sept meeting you will also get 2 Formula BMW races too, so that makes 6 races and even better value for money.

Like has been said above, the F-BMW will be on the infield and should be interesting as it's their first time there.

You will not be disapointed, apart fom the great racing` the whole DofT series is very "open", you`ll be free to enter the paddock to get real close to the team members,drivers and cars..

There will also be a live Mis-Teeq concert

Days of Thunders is great; aslong as it isn't too windy. Rockingham seems to have a habit of taking a light breeze and turning it into a full scale gale.

If you are up for a good laugh, prepare to 'Rock the Rockingham Building'!!!

Yes, Rockingham do a great job in promoting "the show" and certainly make an effort to look after the customers.

I'm marshalling this weekend at my first DofT, does anybody know what the camping facilities are like (understand officials are at the back of turn 2)

As for camping, I don't know of any.

Paul,

The camp site is tiny and primitive. The ground is semi reasonable and is adjacent to the Rockingham maintenance area behind Turn 2. Access is by a track which goes up behind the Turn 1 Outer Grandstands, turn right just before the infield vehicle tunnels. Saying that there is a good toilet and shower block, small but perfectly alright. This only applies if you have a tent.
That said I have seen people pitch a tent on the grassed area above and to the side of the infield vehicle tunnels then use the outer paddock facilities.

If you are in a caravan/motor home then use the outer paddock where the facilities are luxourious.

Rockingham are keeping prices at advance ticket charges for tomorrow. £14.95 adults and £5 children or £32 for 2+2 family ticket.
You can also walk or have passenger rides around the oval after the racing has finished (of course).
Should be a great event.

My first visit to the Rock to see what ASCAR/DoT is like in the flesh.

I must say that I was impressed. This is how race meetings should be run, perhaps with a little more in between the races, maybe have the band playing on top of the pit garages to keep the crowd entertained.

Russ Swift was his usual self, entertaining as ever. Man he's got car control! I suppose if I practiced enough, I could make a mess of the tyres on a mini too!!

All ASCAR needs are more cars, and to close them up a bit more, so they run like the pickups. Cough and you go from 1st to 7th, or the other way around!

I was there too (I've only missed one this year and that was August's), it was a good day. So far I think I'm correct in saying that the number of cars has increased year on year and I hope that continues. The Pickup's are mad, that second race was awsome but they are always entertaining. Colin White drove a blinder in the second DoT race too. The extra formula BMW races gave this meeting a bit of extra variety too which was good, though personally I'd love to see an extra support race from something like the now defunct HARA (Historic American Racers Association - pre 1970 American cars) that used to race back in the mid 90's. Mind you, they'd be forever mopping up oil then!

According to Autosnort, they are discussing support races with a number of championships. If Formula Saloons had survived, I think that they would have wowwed the crowd - Super Touring Cars and Thundersaloons on the oval.... whoo hoo!

Just waiting for someone to get back to me from the "powers that be" regarding booking rookie training.
