Back to the roots!

The Solberg Bros are building Rallycross cars now, Henning a Ford Fiesta ST and Petter a Subaru 'whatever'. Back to their roots – at least as a hobby.

That is great news, the high profile names linked with our beloved sport recently is really exciting prospect, guru do you reckon Alain Prost could be tempted to give rallycross a go.

Hi Barrie, In Froggyland everything seems possible for RX… Saw JP Beltoise, Patrick Tambay and other great names doing RX there. There is one blog entry of today at ERC24 talking about Sébastien Loeb possibly trying RX in France this year. Don’t know where that info originally comes from. As I can speak only about 200 words of French I always found it very difficult to get information about RX in France.

@ 1975DCS: Henning’s engine comes from Pipo Moteurs.

Will that be their first Division 1 Rallycross engine? They made a lot of Rallying and Racing engines before... So new engine builder in the game?

No idea. Perhaps they have done an engine for a French RX driver before…? However, I think Henning will tell them how he wants his Fiesta engine.

Yep, but in the same interview he mentioned also that he will do only demo laps on Saturday and Sunday at Momarken…

From a VF interview with Petter Solberg.
“Petter Solberg have private plans for a future in Rallycross”.
It is very possible that I will build 1 or 2 Rallycross cars. (Subaru)
One is for rent and the other I and Pernilla will share. I would love to do Rallycross again. And Pernilla is very eager to drive again. She had a long break from Motorsport. For those of you who don’t know Pernilla is the daughter of former ERC champion Per-Inge Walfridsson. Stecka is her unkle. And as all the Walfridssons Pernilla was one hell of a rallydriver!
There have been some speculations that Petter would break his contract with Subaru. Just roomers Petter says. I will stay with Subaru for 2009. And that will probably stop him from racing in the ERC.

I suspect that my Subaru bosses do not like that I will do rallycross. Because of the injury risk. But then Pernilla can do it instead.

Just remember immediately that Per-Inge "Pi" Walfridsson and his younger brother Lars-Erik Walfridsson both took part with their Volvo 343s in some same ERC events as well as Vidar Sauthon (ex-Niittymäki Xtrac) and his less known older brother Terje Sauthon (ex-Bentza quattro). Also remember that 1987 European RX champ Seppo Niittymäki had a brother named Risto Niittymäki that drove a VW Beetle.

PS: 1975 ERC winner Cees Teurlings’ younger brother is Will Teurlings, but AFAIR Will started to do RX after Cees had already given up.

Barry's the older. Graham Hathaway Engineering is based just up the road from me in Maldon Essex, heard on the grapevine he still owns the RS200 he used sparingly in rallycross in the late 80's.
