BTCC Calander Date Changes

I see that TOCA have changed the BTCC calander to avoid clashes with the GP. The calander now looks like this:-

April 9-10 - Donington Park, Leicestershire
April 30-May 1 -Thruxton, Hampshire
June 4-5 - Brands Hatch, Kent
June 18-19 - Oulton Park, Cheshire
July 16-17 - Croft, North Yorkshire
July 23-24 - Mondello Park, County Kildare
August 6-7 - Snetterton, Norfolk
August 27-28 - Knockhill, Fife
September 17-18 - Silverstone, Northamptonshire
October 1-2 - Brands Hatch, Kent

The changes are the first Brands round move back a week and the Croft date also move back a week, which means it is back to back with Mondello.

Sensible moves.

They pledged no clashes with F1 in order to help live TV, so this is no surprise.

No whispers of an(other) attempt at a F1 support race yet then?

Fantastic. That solves the problem of how to be at Snetterton for the Super Touring Challenge (http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62453) and Brands for the BTCC at the same time.

That should be fun for most teams getting from Croft to workshop for preparation, to Mondello in less than 3 days.

Indeed, just what I was thinking Mackmot.

All rounds could be televised live next year, read that somewhere, which after this years success would only be a good step.

Explains the Rockingham scenario somewhat. It would be great to have it back though.

Rockingham provided some great racing for the BTCC in 2003, even if there were a few safety issues with the pitlane exit!

Nothing to do with any pitlane. The person previously in charge of running Rockingham (Ashley Pover) apparently didn't want the BTCC. So Alan Gow couldn't include it in his calendar. How could he if the circuit didn't want his championship? Unfortunately, at appears that Pover forgot to tell whoever was about to take over from him and they then innocently issued a statement saying it was down to the BTCC. Then a retraction admitting it was indeed the circuit in the first place (under Pover's leadership) that had said "non" to the BTCC. Alan Gow and the circuit's new manager have both stressed they would be happy to talk about dates for 2006.

What I would love would be for the BTCC to support the British Grand Prix, and use the GP circuit, that would be mega, but I doubt it would happen.

It costs the circuits a lot of money to get ToCA to come and entertain, and they dont really do a very good job. They dont attract the numbers needed to make it worthwhile. Rockingham dont need it when they have a premier series which attracts more spectators than any other 4 wheeled championship.

That's why the new people in charge at Rockingham have openly said they want the BTCC to return there.

Which they achieve by giving away thousands of free tickets for every event.

The TOCA Tour has more paying spectators than any 4 wheeled championship in England - and far more TV viewers.

3200 paying spectators is less than a lot of championships.

I thought I did explain, non of you have explained anything. I know for a fact that there were only 3200 paying spectators at the first Brnads meeting this year and not many more at the later one. I also know that Rockingham get crowds of over 30,000 at there DoT events, with over 20,000 paying.

If I was running a track I know which I would treat as the premier series.

I dont know why people want to argue facts when really this discussion should be heading in the direction of what to do about it. Or maybe a new thread starting. The simple fact is that ToCA, for whatever reason is not an attractive prspect for a circuit owner, they have to pay a lot of money and get no return for it. I think Palmer has been very generous by supporting the championship and paying for them to return (either that or the MSA had a gun to his back).

ToCA needs to learn a few lessons from Rockingham and give the masses what they want. It may not be what us normal race fans want but its better than losing it altogether.
