2007 Detroit Grand Prix ALMS+IRL
Downtown Detroit will play host to the fastest 3 days of the summer when auto racing returns to the Motor City on Labor Day weekend in 2007. The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will feature an action-packed motorsports double-header.
On Saturday, September 1st, the glamorous sports cars of the American Le Mans Series will make their debut in Michigan while on Sunday, September 2nd, fans will be treated to the sights, sounds and nail-biting excitement of the open-wheel cars of the IndyCar® Series. The proceeding is marketing spiel, but the F&C Worker Application is here. thanks, |

Is the course the same as the previous incarnation of this race? If so, have they fixed the pavement transitions between turns 8-14?
keke who still has an official event sweatshirt from Belle Isle -- it's the only one I've ever seen with corner workers in in the picture! |

Uh-huh. It's identical, including the wiggly bits in "Burke Estates" (turns 3-7) and the infamous NFW* area driver's left between 7 and 8. When I worked there, the section between 10 and 12 had more than six changes of track surface in that distance, from concrete to asphalt and back again three times each. Ugly for openwheel, and may not be much fun for LMPs.
*This sticker was put on our passes if we needed to work in this area. It supposedly means "no-fence worker" but I suspect our translation of it as "no-effin'-way" was closer to the truth. cheers, keke |
