LMS 2011 Discussion

Well it seems that for 2011 Oreca will not be running any 908s. @ Mariantic <> motorsport-aktuell

Correct. Expect to see ORECA campaign their own self-built ORECA 02 Peugeot next year. Question is: 1 or 2 cars?

As it's an all new chassis with a factory engine I can't see them running a single car, this is what ORECA has been building upto since they bought out Courage.

I'd also be interested to see if ORECA intend to sell customer cars.

It will also be very interesting to see what engine packages other P1 teams choose with HPD, Roush and possibly Porsche (Rebellion are interested) joining the regular options.

Modena are looking to return to the LMS with a 458 and their regular 430 according to Autosport.

Are you sure? I've recently heard rather different rumblings along the grapevine.

Confirmed this morning on Endurance-Info.com, Oreca 02 project has been halted. For the record, it would have been a coupe. Sad news which has come about due to financial constraints.

Sad news indeed, and shows that Hughes de Chaunac is acutely aware of the financial realities involved in sportscar racing these days.

Perhaps greatest regret from my point of view is that the Oreca 01 AIM project has essentially run to a standstill. Such a contrast from this time last year when it was coming to be one of the most credible petrol LMP1s out there.

All goes to show how much the world changes with sportscars year on year.

It's not all doom and gloom. Oreca will be racing in P1 next year (certainly at Le Mans, according to Hugues), presumably with a programme similar to that with the 908 this year. My guess would be one Oreca 90X in the Le Mans Series, with a pair of official Peugeot 90X's contesting the LMIC.

Jota Sport to run a GTE Vantage in '11 and add a AMR P-1 in the following season. Here

Could we see a GTC class in the LMS like the asian and american series?
and How about Larbre and Luc Alphand? could both run with a Porsche?
Too much questions...

Why not letting the cars from the porsche supercup enter in LMS in a seperate class? I guess that's not realistic because of the different organisers (aco - fia)

Why not run the Supercup as a support , feeder series ? Already a lot of supercup and ex-supercup drivers are racing in the LMS .

Supercup teams run on a limited budget, i doubt any of them could afford to run LMS alongside Supercup.

But I am pretty sure, LMS could get some decent numbers if they introduced a GTC/"GT3 in its original spirit" class. Perhaps not from Supercup, but there are plenty of Cup-Porsches out there and maybe even some Ferrari teams would sign up as well with Challenge cars.

The LMS/ALMS needs fewer classes not more.

The FLM/LMPC cars will eventually merge into P2 and IMO cars of interest in GT1/GT3 should follow the lead of Matech an enter GTE.

There can always be an invitational class when needs must without officially creating new classses.

I think the bar for entry in ACO-GT-racing is a little high right now. Just look at what kind of car the 996 GT3 R was ten years ago and what a monster the 997 GT3 RSR is nowadays...

In theory. We have been over this and I know you believe it'll work, but I have some serious doubts, and besides that, I'd rather see some more variety even if it's only different versions of the same roadcar. GTE PRO and AM will be visually undistinguishable from eachother (apart from some class-specific colouring), whereas it's pretty easy to tell apart an RSR from a Cup-Porsche or a GTE from a Challenge-Ferrari.

For some reason, the GTE-Am-idea smacks too much of a consolation prize to me. It just isnt really a class of it's own - and many series have special trophies for gentleman-drivers, but hardly anyone gives a d*** about it.
A true fourth class that allows genuine all-pro-efforts would be the way to go for me.

Has anyone heard rumblings about the 458? I read above that Modena are intending to use one, but will Ferrari/Michelotto have the car ready for next season? Is anything known about the project at all?

We should see the car later on this year, the car should be ready to roll for Sebring for Risi next year, Dominik Farnbacher has said that they should have one at the start of the season.

AF Corse should (hopefully) have a pair ready to roll for LMS from the first race.

Apparently Modena are running a 430 alongside a 458? Bit odd if you ask me.

Buy a new LMP2 Lola with a different engine, perhaps? I'm not sure their intentions have LMP1 in mind. And the old car + shark fin could be used in LMP1 next year by someone else, I guess.
