Dutch ASCAR racer starts 7th in the ARCA race on Sunday

Looks like Dutchman Michael Vergers, the ASCAR racer, lined up 7th during qualifying for the ARCA race which will be run today, Sunday. It's not too often there's a European on the grid for any of the events during Speedweeks

They have him listed as being from Oxford, UK, but I guess that's because he's raced in the UK for so long...

18-year old Chase Montgomery grabbed the pole.

For those without Speed Channel (like me), the race will be broadcasted over the internet (radio) at www.wndb.com. The race is set to start at 11am ET.

Should be a good race

Well, it is nice to see a European in the field. I seem to remember a post here stating that he was going to compete in some stock car races here so I guess he has made the grade.

Other notables:
1) Casey Mears, former CART driver and son of Roger Mears and nephew of Rick.
2) Justin Labonte is Terry Labonte's son.
3) Jason Jarrett is Dale Jarrett's son.
4) Rick Carelli, once a successful Craftsman Truck series driver
5) Andy Hillenbug, a full-time World of Outlaws driver and part-time stock car driver.

So now pick a winner, I would have to go with Frank Kimmel.

Not a great debut for Vergers. He spun and backed his car in the wall on lap 10 and nobody was even near him.

i think you'll find he was hit and as a result the tyre blew. Not his fault. He also set the fastest lap I believe.
Could've been better sure, but I think he's
proved to be a major contender.

Casey Mears finished 30th in the ARCA race and 23rd in the NASCAR Busch Grand National race.

I think it was the other way around. He made some contact with a car in a bunched up pack a few laps earlier but it didn't appear to cause any sheet metal damage. I also doubt that it was a tire based on where and how he spun out. Usually when it is a tire, the car will slide up the track but his car just went around on him without sliding up the track. Also, if it was a tire, he more than likely would have spun going into the corner. His spin was coming out of the corner which is common place for cars to get loose especially when you get too hard on the throttle.
