best gp
thanks nicker less, i thought this topic would be good as i figured id get alot of different replys. I agree on 95' canada as being one. I'm a huge Alesi fan. 98' monaco always stands out in my mind simply because of the schumi vs. wurz wheel banging, it was amazing. 01' brazil for the same reason substitute montoya for wurz. any race with mind boggling wheel to wheel racing stands out. as well as maiden or lone wins like alesi's 95' win. of course there's any good race for nigel, when he's hot he's the best and certainly the most exciting, i think montoya will bring back his bullist attempts to gain position and win.

While Donington '93 while go down in history is was essentially over as a race after the first lap.
It's hard to pick a race as a whole because individual incidents stick in the memory more but I'd vote for Adelaide '94 I think. Forgetting how it ended - please don't rehash that debate - the race was drama of the highest order. The title at stake, the two contenders head to head, pitting on the same lap, Schumacher withstanding relentless pressure from Hill until...we know the rest. Once it happened there were so many what if's and at the end of it all was Mansell's victory. |

All time?
In my experience, Australian Grand Prix, 1965. The nineties? Probably that Hungarian race... or the one where Nige lost the wheel. |

all very good answers so far, i knew races where nigel was heavily involved would turn up. no coincedence i think. hungary 92 was good, but the when his wheel nut came loose was one that sticks out beacuse he wouldve had another title. other races mentioned seem to involve tgf running a potential wdc contender off the road (damon/jacques). not quite the same way ayrton did it.

For personal reasons I'd have to nominate Argentina 97, because it was what turned me into a Ralf fan.
In terms of excitment/outcome there are quite a few I could nominate. Germany 2000, Magny Cours 2000 come to mind as well as Canada 2001, seeing Ralf beat his brother in a straight fight was very satisfying for me. And, finally, of course, Jerez 97 for obvious reasons . Last edited by Raoul Duke; 31 Jan 2002 at 04:38. |

Let me break it to you gently... the Australian GP has a history going back to 1927, when it was held at the Racecourse at Goulburn, NSW... check the thread 'The FIRST Australian GP' in the Historic forum...
Officially, the 1928 "One Hundred Miles Road Race" at Phillip Island is recognised as the first Australian GP, then following the succession of Grands Prix at Phillip Island (on a public road course) until 1935. The 1936 "South Australian Centenary Grand Prix" was then drafted into the lineage after its running, it becoming listed as the 1937 Australian GP. Bathurst was the site of the 1938 event, Lobethal (swoon!) in 1939, then Bathurst again in 1947, Point Cook (Vic) in 1948, Leyburn (Qld) in 1949, Nuriootpa (SA) in 1950, Narrogin (WA) in 1951, Bathurst in 1952, Albert Park (quite different to today's Albert Park, and run in the opposite direction) in 1953, Southport (Qld, again public roads) in 1954, Port Wakefield (SA) in 1955, Albert Park again in 1956 (the regular placement around the states interrupted to gain exposure with the Olympic Games), Caversham (WA) in 1957, Bathurst in 1958, Longford (Tasmania) in 1959, Lowood (Qld) in 1960, Mallala (SA) in 1961, Caversham in 1962 and then it followed the Tasman Series circuits for the next eight years. Warwick Farm (1963, 1967), Sandown Park (1964, 1968), Lakeside (1966, 1969), Longford in 1965, which is the answer to your question. The race was then settled at Warwick Farm in 1970 and 71 as the promoters were trying to gain World Championship inclusion, but moved to Sandown for 1973, Oran Park in 1974 after the Farm closed, Surfers Paradise in 1975, Sandown again in 1976, Oran Park in 1977, Sandown in 1978, Wanneroo Park (WA) in 1979, then Calder 1980 to 1984 inclusive before Adelaide hosted the first WDC race here. There's a great book about the races up to and including 1985, called "The Official 50-race History of the Australian Grand Prix"... look for it. It's huge, but well worth reading. |

Of all time: Monza five abreast across line, anything with a red Martini Brabham Alfa in it, 79 Dijon of course, anything from 82 or 83, particularly 82 Monaco, Austria or Swiss (Dijon) or 83 Zandvoort. 85 Paul Ricard - a cracker, Brands GP 85 (not because Nige won but for Rosberg's comeback drive - likewise South Africa 85 at Kyalami). '89 Suzuka. Just a few, I'm sure there's plenty more I've missed.
Of the 90s. 91 Brazil for Senna's effort and 92 Monaco just for the last seven laps. '95 Nurburgring, where whimp Alesi let Schumacher do him, 95 Spa for Schuey making a fool out of Hill and everyone else, 96 Monaco for Panis's win, 97 Jerez. Good memories |

Possibly the Spanish GP of 1981 was a better race for Gilles... IMHO his best win. the 82 Monaco race was weird alright!! All teh crashes and feul problems in teh last few laps hee hee!! Great races.... talk about short memories!! I think Suzuka 1994 was a great race... loads of tension after the restart. O-ring in 1982.. Rosberg and DeAngelis... wow!! Canda 78... Gilles ability demonstarted to remarkable effect. Sena's best race must be his win @ Interlagos.. Before 1980 I am not quite sure... I'll have to think! |

My favourite ever have to be: Donnington '93 Barcelona '92 (great Mansell win in awful weather) the end of Monaco '92 Suzuka '96 Belgium '98 Jerez '97 (Brundell:"It won't work this time sunshine") the list goes on and on... |
