Rumours about Asian manufacturer in WTCC
We have heard strong rumours about an Asian manufacturer in 2005 WTCC. Today I read Spanish magazine "Autopista" and says Daewoo is the manufacturer. Anyone knows more? is it confirmed?

As far as I am informed, it will be not Daewoo but another brand from GM (Chevrolet). Racing distance in WTCC will change to 75 kms each race and teams can use bigger brakes too.

Although not related to the Autopista article but still on the topic of Asian car manufacturers in the WTCC: Perhaps Hyundai would be interested? Surely it would be cheaper to put together a WTCC programme as opposed to a WRC one?
Not that I would mind Daewoo though - the more brands represented the merrier |

In any case I reckon it's longer than the races in the ETCC though - they really are way too short, IMO. |

Thanks for the info. 75 km would be a welcome improvement, yes.
Must admit I'm becoming cautiosly optimistic about next year - the WTCC could shape up to become something really nice |

Is there an un/officially WTCC site yet? Id like to see some of the confirmed news/rumours gathered together in one place.

I believe a few announcements are likely to be made at the final round of this year's ETCC.

But why would it be a Korean manufacturer? There is already a Asian car in ETCC: JAS Honda, so maybe this will be a factory entry next year. Quote:

Hyundai have said that the Will definetly return to the WRC in 2006, but still have to pay the FIA the million dollar (not sure on excat figure) fine for not showing up at four events last year
Kia has/will have a new motorsport facility in Russelheim (near Opel I would imagine) |

Daewoo isn't such a strange choice - racing builds the brand and that's a brand which would benefit from such marketing.

http://www.auto123.com/en/info/news/...tid=27686&pg=1 Must admit I didn't know GM had brought in Daewoo into their fold, and GM not updating their website to include it with their other brands sure didn't help. |

Autosport reporting today Daewoo to be run by RML most likely - which brings into RML's SEAT BTCC team.
Also in with a shout of the team are WSR and Prodrive. |

www.autosport.com is reporting the Daewoo story now as well, and they have a small pic of what I reckon is supposed to be the car they might race with.

Daewoo Nubira. Autosport seem to be well into the photoshops this past few weeks. We had a BAR F1 car in 555 colours (like Subaru WRC car), and this week we have a Jag F1 car rebranded in Ford white and blue.
The Daewoo photoshop has to be the dodgiest though! |
