Paul Newman back behind the wheel
http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/roadracing/6416/
That legend will continue Monday, May 26, at Lime Rock Park, as Newman, along with teammate Michael Brockman, will return to Trans-Am Series competition. Newman will drive the No. 78 Chevrolet Corvette, which Butch Leitzinger drove to two victories, and earned the Rookie of the Year title last season. Brockman will drive the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro. Newman is never one to mince words, and was quick to point out his motivation for racing at Lime Rock this year: "I'm trying to maintain a pulse," he quipped. Good luck, Paul! |

hmmm. Paul has been one heck of a character for racing. I really do hope he doesn't hurt himself, or anyone else. I do like this guy a great deal, but his great skills are greatly diminished.

I guess he figures if a guy with no legs can do it, so can he?

This is also a track that Paul's raced on innumerable times in a car that hasn't changed a whole hell of a lot from his best years.

Yikes, I didn't like it when Mario did it, and I REALLY don't like to see Paul do it!

I have to admit that I think he is too old for this. That thing with Mario scared me. On the other hand, I really admire his spirt. If he feels up to racing Trans-Am, I'm all for it. He knows what he is capable of more than I do. Good luck Paul.

Keep in mind that he's cracked up close to half the cars that he's driven in the last 5 years.

Just the fact he can still drive a racing car at his age deserves encouragement. Good Luck Paul.
