Fantastic news. Why didn't Rocketsports hire someone who was ready in the first place? Ironic that a much-loved American should make his return for a race in Canada, but it's good that he's there anyway.

Really, no surprise to see Philippe out of a ride eventually. He was far too young and/or inexperienced to be racing in this sort of series.

Neither Phillipe nor Gidley appear to be there in first practice...

A proper driver in the car.
That's good news. |

This is the best news I have heard in a long time. Someone from the past version of CART now hooking up in the new Champ Car Series. Even if it is just for one race in Toronto, I can only hope that Memo Gidley is here for the rest of the year. Now only if somehow Alex Zanardi could come back I would be speachless.

Doesn't matter, TedN.
Gidley is a more talented ride-buyer than Philippe |

I just hate it when the check bounces...
Seriously, the rookie sensation was overmatched. I am glad he got out before something happened where he might get injured. But good old Memo! Goodness! Now we can have acres of Memo threads speculating on who, what, when, where, why, sponsored by and the whole nine yards! He did well as a sub before so I am curious as to the results he may achieve, even with limited seat time. |

Memo may not be the greatest driver out there but he's willing to work for a ride. Plus, he's a heckuva nice guy
I think I'd rather have someone with experience than a mere child who hasn't learned the ropes (I'm not saying that to be nasty, BTW) |

I think Memo is a much better driver than some think. He performed very well for Chip Ganassi a couple years back. When he finished 2nd at Laguna Seca, he took time to stop and chat with fans after the race. He was then promptly swept away by one of the CART officials to take him to the post race interview. Really good guy.

Does anyone know why he did not turn any laps today?

Memo almost won Cleveland in 2000 I think it was too. If there had been on or two more laps he would have.

Good news for memo if indeed he is back (not sure if he is through some of the comments here)
A shame for Phillipe though , I didnt think he was travelling that badly but memo deserves a ride and should do well. |

Memo is only a temporary stopgap as usual, til the contract dispute is resolved. Memo has no money. And if he had talent, but no money, someone would have been paying him to drive by now. He will arrive tomorrow and a pool is already operating as to how far he will get before he crashes. Turn 3 is the current bet. |

Great to see Memo get a ride. Short term or not he deserves it. |
