STCC 2003 - Alfa, Volvo, BMW, Audi, Renault, Opel, Merc, Honda, Nissan
All these cars could race in the STCC in 2003.
Any other suggestions? |

So has the STCC announced that ST cars are absolutely NOT allowed anymore? So has the STCC officially announced whether or not they are going with the BTC or ETCC rules?

They have announced that they will run under ETCC rules, though with some small modifications like sequential gearbox...
Read more about it on my page... |

How affordable are the cars to build for the STCC teams? Do they have enough money and technical ability to build SP2000 cars? Maintaining the cars are already difficult enough already? I think with the sequential gearbox, a SP2000 car still costs about 100-150K US? That's less than half of the cost of a ST car, but still ain't cheap.
Have any of the STCC teams made an comments regarding the announcement? What will happen to all the ST cars currently in Sweden? Will they turn the ST cars into a support series race? Last edited by kmchow; 4 Jun 2002 at 22:54. |

Don't know where all the ST cars will go, though there is for sure alot of em in Sweden...
No major announcements yet no. Oh yes, Volvo has said that they will have cars ready for those who wants to buy. I think it will work quite well for the Swedish teams, with the abillity to build their own cars without FIA homologation it will be easier. For sure its not cheap, but cheaper than ST and we have seen STCC grids with 30+ ST cars... |

I think the STCC teams could do it easily. They are very professional, with great engineering skills.

Hmmm, so Volvo wants to pull a "BMW"--building and selling cars for customers. I wonder if anyone will take up Volvo's offer. Also, has Volvo, Alfa, etc... been offering contingency money to teams that race and do well in the STCC? Or has Volvo just been selling their old ST cars for very cheap to privateers?

Janne Lindblom ran a Volvo S40 in the STCC last year with quite good support from Volvo eventhough he was a privateer. The same thing is with Magnus Krokström this year in the STCC.
Volvo has never been very keen to sell used ST cars to privateers, don't ask me why, but the only times they have done that Volvo has been involved in some way helping etc... |

OTOH, I saw ads several months ago in Autosport Mag to the contrary. They are selling their 850s and S40s. OTOH, considering ST is now dead, they better get rid of their cars now when they're still worth 50-60K US???
