Dutch ASCAR racer starts 7th in the ARCA race on Sunday
Looks like Dutchman Michael Vergers, the ASCAR racer, lined up 7th during qualifying for the ARCA race which will be run today, Sunday. It's not too often there's a European on the grid for any of the events during Speedweeks
They have him listed as being from Oxford, UK, but I guess that's because he's raced in the UK for so long... 18-year old Chase Montgomery grabbed the pole. For those without Speed Channel (like me), the race will be broadcasted over the internet (radio) at www.wndb.com. The race is set to start at 11am ET. Should be a good race -------------------------------------------- Official starting line-up for the 2002 Discount Auto Parts 200: 1 27 Chase Montgomery/Mt Juliet TN Montgomery Motorsports Pontiac 48.769 184.543 2 25 Billy Venturini/Charlotte NC Sports Authority-Future Network Pontiac 48.856 184.215 3 04 Keith Segars/Jacksonville FL Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q Chevrolet 48.887 184.098 4 67 Jason Jarrett/Hickory NC Biomet-Damon RV Pontiac 48.981 183.745 5 5 Bobby Gerhart/Lebanon PA Gerhart Racing Pontiac 49.066 183.426 6 77 Chad Blount/Walkerton IN Braun Auto Group Dodge 49.067 183.423 7 75 Michael Vergers/Oxford UK Bruichlauddich.com Ford 49.211 182.886 8 4 Justin Labonte/Trinity NC Kerry Scherer Dodge 49.355 182.352 9 66 Tina Gordon/Cedar Bluff AL Sticks N Stuff Ford 49.439 182.043 10 22 Damon Lusk/Kennewick WA Dynatek Communications Pontiac 49.439 182.043 11 50 Frank Kimmel/Jeffersonville IN Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford 49.499 181.822 12 05 Rick Carelli/Arvada CO RE/MAX Int'l Chevrolet 49.546 181.649 13 17 Nate Monteith/Bristol TN King Pharmaceuticals Pontiac 49.700 181.087 14 82 Robby Benton/Charlotte NC Mac Tools Ford 49.849 180.545 15 31 Randal Ritter/Franklin TN Miss Audrey's Fried Pies Chevrolet 49.893 180.386 16 36 Casey Mears/Bakersfield CA Jesel Valve Pontiac 49.999 180.004 17 7 Rich Woodland/Templeton CA National Cold Storage Pontiac 50.001 179.996 18 64 Shelby Howard/Greenwood IN Lucas Oil-Mack Trucks Pontiac 50.036 179.870 19 1 Andy Belmont/Penndel PA AOL-Spirit Fuels-Southern Pan Service Ford 50.096 179.655 20 40 Jerry Hill/Port Tobacco MD American Kennel Club Chevrolet 50.120 179.569 21 49 Dan Shaver/Charlotte NC Petro Express-Citco Pontiac 50.255 179.087 22 11 Andy Hillenburg/Concord NC Llumar Window Film Chevrolet 50.317 178.866 23 51 Joe Cooksey/Centralia IL SunSpeed.net Chevrolet 50.325 178.838 24 54 Richard Mitchell/Bruceton Mills WV Coach USA-Mountaineer Gaming-Forest River Pontiac 50.410 178.536 25 09 GJ Mennen/Cornelius NC Greased Lightning-Motorcheck Pontiac 50.474 178.310 26 53 Robert Burroughs/Laurel MS Burroughs Motorsports Pontiac 50.481 178.285 27 28 Mike Buckley/Ann Arbor MI Midwest Mall Fronts Chevrolet 50.594 177.887 28 15 Carl McCormick/Jacksonville FL TheRaceFansChoice.com Ford 50.609 177.834 29 6 Mike Harmon/Birmingport AL Reliance Tool Chevrolet 50.610 177.830 30 42 CW Smith/Williamsport PA Shop Vac Chevrolet 50.738 177.382 31 59 Mark Gibson/Winder GA Williams Brothers Lumber Chevrolet 50.745 177.357 32 69 Jeff Spraker/Latham NY Nat'l Parts Peddler-Adirondack Int'l Ford 50.803 177.155 33 65 Vern Slagh/Zeeland MI Quality Car Wash-DJ's One Stop Ford 50.894 176.838 34 34 Darrell Basham/Henryville IN Basham Racing Chevrolet 50.944 176.665 35 91 Sunny Hobbs/Richmond VA Classic & Muscle Car Super Stores Ford Provisional 36 23 Ron Cox/Soddy Daisy TN PPR Health Care Chevrolet Provisional 37 38 Greg Sarff/Columbus OH Stanley Steemer-Beannie's Coach Ford Provisional 38 84 Norm Benning/Pittsburgh PA Benning Motorsports-Diamond Spring Water Chevy Provisional 39 24 Chuck Weber/Mesquite TX Cardinal Tool Company Chevrolet Provisional 40 48 Kevin Belmont/Feasterville PA James Hylton Ford Provisional 41 21 Todd Bowsher/South Vienna OH United Express Line Trailers-LL&S Development Ford Provisional Last edited by rustyfan; 10 Feb 2002 at 02:45. |

Well, it is nice to see a European in the field. I seem to remember a post here stating that he was going to compete in some stock car races here so I guess he has made the grade.
Other notables: 1) Casey Mears, former CART driver and son of Roger Mears and nephew of Rick. 2) Justin Labonte is Terry Labonte's son. 3) Jason Jarrett is Dale Jarrett's son. 4) Rick Carelli, once a successful Craftsman Truck series driver 5) Andy Hillenbug, a full-time World of Outlaws driver and part-time stock car driver. So now pick a winner, I would have to go with Frank Kimmel. |

Not a great debut for Vergers. He spun and backed his car in the wall on lap 10 and nobody was even near him.

i think you'll find he was hit and as a result the tyre blew. Not his fault. He also set the fastest lap I believe.
Could've been better sure, but I think he's proved to be a major contender. |
