BRDA Thoughts Anyone?

Firstly,

I know one of the BRDA Buffs are going to try get this thread closed down, however if they do it will once again show that the brda cant take a slap on the face.

Now ive been looking around all rallycross forums and the same stuff keeps coming up about the brda.

They seem to have the most un-qualified people doing important things, the best example of this is what the BRDA Call a 'Web Site' However as many people know it provides 0.00001% of good information, it has no current event pictures or anything! It spends most of its time with a note from the webmaster saying that their database has corrupt.

This so-called web designer is suppose to be qualified aswell, now take a look around rallycross websites you will see that they have a good design going for them, but most of them are designed by people with no qualification in web-design (myself included) so someone with a qualification should be able to pull one out of the bag easy, yeh? but sadly its no

Dose anyone else have any comments?

Two of rallycross sunday drivers run it don't they. Can't name any names but ones a stock hatch, school teacher. And the others a female Porsche driver. Probably produced free of charge though so can't be too harsh I suppose.

Too right, most of the BRDA members are volunteer's and not professionals. They have job's and home lives to consider as well as Rallycross. If anyone could do better try talking to people instead of putting them down.Age and experience count towards alot Rxie.

Barrie -

Your facts are wrong. The BRDA website is maintained entirely by the Stock Hatch teacher - ME! No Porsche drivers involved!

Rxie -

I have no qualifications whatsoever in web design. rallycrossUK.com is primarily a site for posting information for drivers - like results, championship tables etc. etc. Rallyxpics is right - I can only post information I know about. You can send me any constructive suggestions you have by Emailing me on BRDAweb@aol.com.

Cheers Queen!! See you on Sunday!

Roy Rxie professes to be a Rallycross driver so should help with the site.Constructive critisism from a pup probably won't help.

RXIE - It depends if you continue to aim direct insults at individuals as per the usual.....

Keep it up RoyG - Both the site and the Sunday driving....

Thank You
To our friends. thank you for your support. The BRDA is some peaple trying to make the sport work. What we don't need is babies trying to tell us how the sport work's , or telling us how the sport should work. If you can do better try it.

Would I be correct in assuming that as there are so many experts out there with so much to say after each meeting, that there will be a lot of new faces signing on as officials on sunday, and offering their services, assisting with running the meeting, or will they sit on their hands and whine for weeks afterwards?

See you on Sunday - looking forward to a good day!

Ok few points here:
  1. Speaking as someone who has been involved in website design - and specifically design for motorsport - for some years now, I quite like the BRDA site. The layout is easy to use and I've never had any of the database problems referred to by rxie. It would be nice to see more updated information but I'm also very much aware that people who are involved in a sport don't get as much time as they would like to actually do the back end stuff and hold down a job and find time to fit in a life! The one thing I always found very irritating was the lack of an event calendar, but when I was there this morning, one had appeared so that's ok! RoyG, I don't know how long it takes to update results etc., but if you want to drop me a PM, I can recommend some software that will allow any designated user to do the updates and will reformat the site. This might take some of the pressure off and has worked very well for our motorsport sites as the class co-ordinator can do the updates from the circuit (assuming presence of laptop and available dial up line!)
  2. rxie, whilst I appreciate you are very interested in improving things, I would suggest that public attacks with incorrect information is neither the way to change things or to encourage people to listen to any opinions you may have. You are damaging your chance to make what could be a very valuable contribution by the way you're acting and I think it's a pity. Sometimes you can just talk to people.
  3. An honest opinion which you are probably not going to like, but it doesn't change the facts. If you are going to complain about other people's websites, I strongly advise you get your own house in order first. I like the changes you've made to your site, but I notice that there have been no results posted since July of this year and there don't appear to be any photos since February. You know what they say about people who live in glass houses.
  4. Finally, I don't think slanging matches on the internet are going to do anything to raise the profile of Rallycross in the UK or Ireland. Since we are all here for love of the sport and we are all either competitors or volunteers, a bit of manners makes a big difference in keeping the wheels turning, the marshals trackside and the websites moving.

I'll go along with that! There are some valid points here (as there were in the thread that got canned) but they're getting buried in all the personal *****ing.

As far as the websites go I tend to use www.rallyracing.nl as this seems to get the reports and results up quickest. I appreciate the problems involved in writing and maintaining websites (I work with them during the day) and also appreciate that the BRDA site is done in Roys 'spare' time which has plenty of other demands (not least preparing the car and racing!). It does have to be said though I've always got a quick response to any questions I've submitted on the website (thanks Roy!). My own pathetic attempts at actually finding time to sort my homepage out (still not there!) only go to show it's not a 5 minute job.

rxie - calm down! You've got some good ideas but you do need to present them better, you're obviously very keen to improve things but I'd suggest that people would take more notice if you'd just think a bit more before submitting your posts and make constructive comments instead of criticising all the time (especially the personal attacks).

Everyone on here loves their rallycross, it's a shame to see people *****ing at each other when they could be working together to resolve any percieved problems. We've got all the elements on here - drivers, marshals, organisers, website gurus, fans, dogsbodies and god only knows who else. If we use everyones input in the right way that can only be good for the sport surely?

Criticism is useless if it's not constructive and received by open ears

Ive already talked to roy and im sure he will confimed that i have regaurding the matter, i will admit a lack of results and photos on rallycross ireland! However its not as easy to get information over here as it is in the uk..

I firstly was told by a few people that roy had an B.Sc in Computers (and web design) and i have appoligised to roy for making this mistake.

I will admit that most of my comments are not Constuctive. The reason rallycross ireland has not had up to date pictures and results is for the reasons above and we are working very closely with motorsport ireland so its currently taking up alot of our time (im not at liberty to say what we are working towards)

However i will say i know alot of drivers that are un-happy with the brda's handling of things this year one of the persons was gollop.

So.. im not alone in the diapointment and Anguish ...

Part of your complaint about the BRDA website was the lack of pictures and result updates. I'm simply pointing out that you should be very careful about complaining about other sites not doing something you do not do yourself. I don't think this is unfair comment.

I'm very surprised you've had difficulty obtaining information from Motorsport Ireland. I've always found them very helpful. Possibly you are not approaching the right people. If you like, I can give you some contacts if you're unable to obtain things like results. It's really not that difficult. In fact, anyone with a notebook in the bar at Mondello yesterday evening could have made a note of results - they were handing out the prizes. If you have Motorsport Ireland media accreditation, you can simply pick them up from the Media Centre in the tower. I'm surprised that, given your involvement with Motorsport Ireland, you were unaware of this. Next time you're talking to them, ask them about getting accreditation. This may make things easier for you.

None of the websites I run have ever had difficulty getting this information - in fact, they all have the results up within 24 hours of the races being run and photos up within 3 days of the races being run. If I can get this information - and I obviously do not have your heavy involvement with Irish RallyX or with Motorsport Ireland - then I really find it hard to understand why you are unable to do so.

If photographs are an issue, I can put you in touch with at least 2 photographers that I'm sure would be more than happy to provide photographs for you for the relevant fees. All the official websites contract a photographer each season to take photos of each round and provide them within a reasonable period for publishing. I'm surprised that your own site doesn't do the same.
