Probans washing
Does any one know what you can wash your probans with? I know it's a washing machine but can't remember what soaps? Please help as mine really need sorting out before the new season really starts!

Basically, thats the bit to remember, you need to use detergents that don't include soap, which is most nowadays but just check the pack in case they change. So you can be safe with most leading brands like Persil and so-on, but avoid those like Lux Flakes which are almost pure soap. Then again, if you're so close that you're wondering if your overalls are still Flame Retardent, I'd say your a wee bit too close to the action! If you need some destructions I'm sure I can post them here if people want, I'd just need to dig them out from all the other paperwork. |

And remember not to put them in a hot wash or they shrink like the clappers!

Yes I think so. There should be a washing label on the overals somewhere.

You must not wash Proban-treated garments in traditional soap based powders eg. Lux, Velvet & Advance etc. These soap powders can form flammable deposits which may adversely affect the flame-retardant performance of the fabric.
You must not use Hydrochlorite-based household bleaches such as Domestos, White King (and all supermarket blends) as they can destroy the flame retardancy of the fabric. You can wash Proban-treated garments in conventional washing machines. It is recommended that they be washed at 60 degrees Celsius for mixtures of coloured goods and 40 degrees Celsius for mixtures of whites and pale colours. Use the wash program for non-colour fast cotton articles. You may use the following washing powders: Castle FAB Cold Power OMO Drive Radiant Dynamo Spree Surf A short re-soak (up to 2 hours at room temperature) may be useful for articles which are heavily stained or soiled. It is suggested that garments be regularly washed to prevent a build-up of soiling. Garments can be tumble dried (preferably at a warm setting). Take care not to over-dry the garments ie. Continuing to leave them in the dryer when they are dry. Over-drying will not affect the flame-retardant properties of the garment but, as the base fabric is cotton, excessive shrinkage might occur -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

I phoned the manufacturers of the BMRMC overalls and they said that it alright to use Persil Original automatic but don't use fabric conditioner with them.
I wash my overalls on no 5 wash and leave them to dry. |

This was posted a while ago by Nick from AWS.
I kept it so the good lady could read it when the time came. Hi Guys (and girls)and to all AWS RACEWEAR valued customers, I hope the following infomation helps. Proban treated garments can be washed in any conventional washing machine. It is recommended that garments are washed at 60C for mixtures of coloured goods and 40C for mixtures of white and pale colours. The wash programme used should be that for non-colour fast cotton articles. For articles that are heavily stained a short pre-soak may be found useful (up to 2 hours at room temp). The following washing powders may be used to launder Proban treated garments. Ariel, Daz, Tide, Fairy Non Bio, Surf automatic, Dreft, Surf, Persil System Automatic. Some brands now state 'suitable for FR fabrics'. The following washing powders, which are soap based must not be used to launder Proban treated garments, Acdo, Lux soap flakes, Persil. The use of soap in hard water areas can result in soap deposits, which adversely affect the flame-retardant performance of Proban fabrics. In addition, Hypochloride based household bleaches MUST NOT BE USED. These include Domestos, Vortex and all supermarket blends. For further info on washing Proban treated garments please call me,I will be pleased to send info as supplied to ourselves. Having now been running AWS for the past 3 years there is one point that causes me concern. A number of customers refer to Proban treated garments as 'Fireproofs', this I feel may lead to a false sense of security, Proban treatment makes the garment Flame retardant, not fireproof. Proban treated overalls are ideally worn with Flame retardant underwear for extra protection. Once again, thank you to all Marshals for doing a grand job, take care and good luck to you all. Nick - AWS |

all the above information is great but i am telling you my wife washed ours on a cool wash, and strangely only my pair (strange that it is a pair but thats another argument) shrunk, it definatly has nothing to do with the winter layer i have put on over the xmas period, buti put them on for our training day last week and the shrinking fairies have definalty been at them.
Looking forward to the new season |

Hmm. Just read the list - does that mean Tesco's own brand is not suitable?
