A question about the one engine rule.
Basically the drivers are allowed only one engine per weekend and a penalty of 10 places if a new one is used..
Now suppose the driver crashes during the course of the weekend and has to jump in the T-car. Presumably this will have its own engine so basically the driver would have used 2 seperate engines in the weekend.. so is he still penalised... or is this the case only with BLOWN engines. I think the engine in the crashed car has to be used in the T-car, hence McLaren trying hard to make engine changes quicker on their new car. But I don't know for sure......we'll soon find out perhaps!

I think I have read somewhere that the official take on this scenario is that it would indeed be deemed as having used 2 engines, and thus the driver's starting position would be penalized.
What would happen, though, if a race driver fell ill on Saturday evening after qualifying? Would the 3rd driver have to race in his 3rd car, or the car that was qualified? And if it is the car that qualified, is he penalized since it is not the engine that he ran on Friday? |

Thanks for adding to the confusion Shiny...
Indeed that scenario is possible... what would happen then? |

If the spare car uses a new engine then the driver is penalised.
THe new driver will have to use the engine he used in practice on Friday otherwise he is penalised. (I am more or less sure of this) The engine is tied to the driver not the car. |

This is a bit off topic , but in regards to ralf fan's sig... in the FIA press conference yesterday, a reporter asked Button what he would do if Williams offered him a pile of money and a drive next year. Montoya laughed, and said 'Oh, that will happen?' to which the reporter asked why JPM thought Button wouldn't get an offer. Montoya was talking about the pile of money, though.
I thought it was funny, anyway... |

anyway thanks Adam.. so basically the driver has to use the same engine by hook or by crook or else 10 places down the road... |

The 3rd driver would be starting at the back of the grid anyway as he had not taken part in qualifying. Therefore he would have a new engine in the car as the 10 positions penalty would make no difference to his starting position. |
