Canon Lenses for Canon 350d?
Hi
I was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice? I have just bought the Canon 35Od and I am looking to mainly use it for shooting Formula One at Silverstone. I have been on to other sites and have had differing opinions as to which lens to get! I'm getting confused! I want to stick with Canon lenses. Some people recommended the 200mm but others said there would not be enough reach. I got it down to two other lenses. The EF 75-300MM IS USM or the new EF 70-300MM DO IS USM. The second probably being the most expensive I can afford at the moment. However someone has now advised me not to go for IS. Can you turn the IS off as he said it would interfere with panning shots. I have seen the 75-300mm without ISM but at a £150 this lens seems a bit too cheap. Obviously I want the best for the job! Hope someone can help! Michael |

if you can afford the DO lens, get the 100-400 4-5.6 L IS instead.
The IS on the DO lens would interfere with panning shots as it's designed to stablise the image vertically and horizontally (to deal with camera shake). Instead, the IS on the 100-400 has two modes: 1 is the same as on the DO; Mode 2 is specifically for panning shots as it only applies IS vertically, so that you can pan with a bit of stabilisation to help you. Moreover, the DO offers no real benefit for so much money and the sharpness of Diffractive Optics is a little bit dubious. 100-400 would be ideal for you, i think. |

just one thing though, the 100-400 will absolutely dwarf the 350D - it's a tiny camera!
Maybe an idea to get the battery grip too |

Cheers for the help. Do you think the EF 75-300mm IS USM will be ok? Not sure if I cna afford the 100-400mm at the moment!

I have the EF 75-300mm IS USM on 10D, its a good lens and I am very happy with it.

i have the 75-300 non IS version that you mention, on a 20d.. lets just say it performs above it's price tag... it's cheap, but it still gets some damn fine shots

I've just ordered a 350 D kit, its coming with a 18-55 and a 55-200,but I will be looking for some perhaps more suitable lenses very soon. Anyone got any 350D images to show?

I had a look at a 350D the other week, it very small and didn't have the same feel as either my 10D or the 20D
|

The one I looked at didn't have the battery grip, so that might make it feel a bit more bulky.

Relatively happy with my choice after reading a review in the April issues of a photo mag that someone lent me today.. Similar comment on size, but rectified by opting for the grip and the battery power that come with it! . Best sub £1000 digital camera currently available was the verdict.

Yes snapper its a real shock I know, but the Nikon offering in the price range, has failed to catch my eye.
I'm off to the states next month and will be looking at perhaps buying the lens recomondation above, as I think prices are perhaps more competitive? |

Went to Cadwell yesterday, my first meeting with the digicam:
This is one of my faves from the day: http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/mg.maes..._kerb_jump.jpg This was taken with a 55 - 200 mm lens. Original image a much wider view, bad timing with panning on the kerb, hence no back end to the car, but possibly rescued with the cropping? kelvin |
