The FFSA French Formula 4 will adopt FIA F4 regulations in 2018, with Mygale chassis and Renault 2.0L engines.

Sudamericana is definitely gone, China is I think unlikely too as a large amount of their entrants were not present for the final round this year either.

The boom in F4 ends. It's too expensive.

There aren't that many entrants in F4SEA either but they are still racing. F4 China just concluded their season. I think it is a bit early to write that series off.

The Sudamericana series is definitely struggling but the Mexican series is running strong. Young South American drivers are increasingly looking at Brazilian stock cars instead of single-seaters. There is a push by the FIA to build up single-seater racing in South America. Hopefully F4 will be put on firmer footing there.

As for being too expensive, costs are capped and relatively speaking, most F4 championships are a good bang for the buck. Relatively speaking being the operative phrase.

The South American F4 didn't do a single race this year.

The 2016 budget was US$ 3600 per race. Minimum wage in my country is US$ 400 per month. Very few people can afford it.

But since there are no carbon-fibre and kevlar productors and very few importers in the region, how to care the chassis? Not to tell is so expensive for the zone, it's the main reason why some local single-seater chassis builders like Crespi and Tito still rely on tubular-fiberglass tubs on the F4-spec series, still up to our days.

Interesting point. Are those chassis builders building for multiple series? Who is their market?

Main one is Argentine Formula Renault, where Tito 02 is used as mandatory.
The Crespi chassis, is used in Formula Metropolitana (Buenos Aires area), Formula 4 Nueva Generacion, and Formula Renault Plus (Cordoba area); Crespi is the largest F4-spec builder since late 1960s. Main Crespi chassis used today is Tulia XXV that are running since 2002. Older versions like Tulia XXIII and elders are used on regional single-seater series.
Team JLS made its own chassis, used in Formula Renault Plus few years ago.
The market of these chassis is Argentine single-seater "school" series.

The Formula Renault Plus also races at Mendoza, Termas, San Luis and Paraná.

I didn't know Formula 4 Nueva Generación.

The F4 South East Asia round at Sentul has been cancelled.

The championship was supposed to have raced at Buriram last weekend, but I can't find any results.

What is happening with NACAM F4? They had 5 cars last week with some drivers dropping out last minute. Has it been like that all season?

I think it's a downward trend for all F4. F4 season-on-season entrant numbers do 1 of 4 things:
Stay about the same (Australia, China, BRDC)
Increase then decrease (France, Sudamericana, Italy, ADAC, Japan)
Just drop (NACAM, British, SMP, SEA)
Or rise (Spain, US, UAE) but these are only 2 years old and will likely drop

Only 7 of the 45 championships run have seen an increase in numbers through a season so it's hardly surprising when 11 turn up to race 1 that they hit single digits in the later rounds.

After a sabbatical year, the Fórmula 4 Sudamericana will return in 2018.

It will be held over 8 rounds, all but one in Brazil.

I don't think that trend applies just to F4. It is also hitting series like Indy Lights and Formula Renault NEZ. It is a natural thing for development series to go through. All things considered F4 is relatively new. I think the market will show more consolidation in the coming years with F4 being the prime beneficiary since it is supported so strongly by the FIA.

But I was reading about the Mexican series and was trying to piece together why one of the leading drivers dropped out the week before the race. Any ideas about that?

The Fórmula 4 Sudamericana uses Signatech chassis and 1.8L engines.

If you are referring to her facebook livestream in spanish, i think it was her retirement from the Mexican F4 series, ie. her leaving the series.
But then, my spanish isn't that good... so I could very well be very wrong

Hope youre right Chris-my spanish not up to much eitherTwitter versions have translations-seems it is the Momo F4 team that has retired-Douglas Motorsport F3 team has bought new car and signed replacement driver.Alexandra does not rule out return to european racing at a later date.Still this is getting of the subject of this thread-what is wrong with the NASCAM F4 series?
