46 cars entered, or there abouts - i reckon there's about 8 or 9 drivers here who nascar should thank for getting them up to the usual 43 cars each race (ie, the last 5 listed above, plus a few others)
how much longer will we see 43 car grids - the trucks only have 36 starters..... |

Only eight races are left in the 26-event setup for the “Chase for the Championship” format. The real drama for the final two months will be for positions six through ten.

I hear DE Jr will be allowed to have a substitue driver qualify the car, then Dale can start the race, hand over to the substitute and still score points.
What rubbish! You're either fit to race or you're not. If he's not fit enough, he should be out for the whole weekend. |

The substitute rule was not made specifically for jr. It was there for a long time and numerous drivers have had substitutes at some point during a race.
BTW, I pick Rusty for the win. Last edited by muggle not; 23 Jul 2004 at 23:07. |

I know it wasn't made for him, but I think it's time to delete it.

Who is this Martin Truex Jr., who is substitute for Earnhardt Jr.? The guy drove on 3rd on the grid, quite impressive, i'd say.

He's the championship leader in the Busch series.
Now he's qualified so impressively, it seems a shame he won't get to start the race or score points/a result for himself. Damn those silly rules! |

Oh, thanks, I don't follow the Busch series so closely, and yes - shame really.

Truex raced in the Busch North series and then Dale, jr hired him to drive in the Busch series this year where he is doing very well. He is not quite ready for Cup racing though. I expect him to move up next year but would rather see him in Busch one more year. Just my 2 cents.
