Robin Miller says....
... that CART will confirm the 3.5 liter engine rules in the next week. He appeared on the news tonight here in Indy.
While this is hardly surprising news, my question is how close the engines will be to the IRL spec? How about the chassis? Too bad that AutoRacing1.com's 1.8 liter turbo formula didn't come to pass. That was a really well thought out idea. KM Last edited by MaxSport; 6 Jun 2001 at 05:27. |

I heard the same comment during the CART2Day show just before the Milwaukee race. He said that the new engine package would most likely not go into effect until 2003.

Actually, 2004... the deadline for a change for 2003 passed on March 15. Toyota has agreed to the current formula through 2003 at the behest of Ford and Honda. . CART's eventual formula will probably displace less that 3.5 litres but the bore limit deck height and V- angle will be the same as the IRL to keep the basic block design workable for both series. There will be no rev-limiter as in the IRL. Honda hasn't agreed to this plan, but more importantly, they haven't said no.... Look for an announcement on engine rules at Detroit.
