Rainer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Silverstone GP - Where to watch race?

I am going to the Silverstone GP this year. It is my first time there so I am not really sure which grandstands offer the best view. I was thinking about Luffield, but could imagine that Club B or Becketts could also be good.
I would appreciate any recommendations!!

Also, does anybody know about transport facilities from London to Silverstone. Heard that going by car is not a good idea due to usual traffic chaos. Are there any buses or trains on Saturday and Sunday?

Thanks a lot!

Rainer

Hi Rainer, welcome to the forum!

I'll move this to the Trackside forum, but I'll leave a redirect so people can still see it here in F1.

I'll bow to other people's knowledge of the grandstands, but if you just get general admission then Stowe corner's pretty good - you can see up Hangar straight, and across towards Club.

I've only ever been by car, and it is a hell of alot better than it used to be. Big car parks, and a new road straight to the circuit. Yes, the jams are heavy, and it'll take an hour or two to get back to the M1/A5 south, but that's the case however you travel unless you can afford a helicopter ride...

Indeed, a good bet will be to have a search of the Trackside forum for Silverstone - there's many threads out there discussing places to watch from, problems with traffic, and also where to camp if you're going for a few days!

Slightly off topic but I see in Motorsport News everyone has been invited to watch F1 testing for free at Silverstone soon, including access to the grandstands and free parking, that got to be a bit of a result surely. Be a good oppertunity to explore viewing places (see got it back on track).

I would reccomend sitting somewhere to the right of woodcote corner as u look towards the infield, usually you can see across the complex, which means you can see 3 and a bit corners at low speed (very good for photo's). There is usually a big screen in view aswell.

Maggots/Becketts/chapel complex is alway bound to be a good bet to be able to see the amazing grip!

As far as getting trains etc, theres regular services from London Euston to Northampton with Virgin Trains or Silverlink Trains. Takes about 1h20m. Standard return ticket no more than £30. Journey planner available at www.nationalrail.co.uk - Someone else with more experience of doing the journey will have to advise about transferring to Silverstone from there.

To be honest, it's probably easier to drive and use Park & Ride, or get a car park pass if you're getting more than 1 ticket. Listening to the traffic reports on Silverstone radio while i've been on post the last few years, the traffic problems are now virtually eliminated as long as you dont try and turn up between 9am & 11am on Sunday morning, then you might be stood for a short while.

Have fun,
Al
