CER Silverstone
What is to tell about this one?
Any "new" nice machines on location? Who did lead the practice-session? |

Thanks Fausto
Again a very limited grid as last year - just 13 cars. Any explainations for this? |

Nurburgring event? This race was total waste of time - it should have been dropped before the meeting giving the marshals a break.

Very very disappointing. A very poor field indeed. At least there was a GT40 to look at - shame it was being pedalled at snail's pace........

After an encouraging start last year, the series seems to be losing momentum. Owners of classic cars aren't necessarily interested in doing whole seasons (unless their name is Martin Birrane and they own Lola Cars...) but still, it is disappointing to see David Piper give his home event a miss. I suppose he will be at the Nürburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix. No use putting on a historic race with such an event happening on the same weekend.

Yep Nurburgring host the Old Classics event this weekend.
It was ok for the first 5 laps but then after that it had stretched out and very little to see. Some nice cars though. |

I appreciated my first opportunity to see such legendary cars. Barely a grid but the uneasy conditions made for some good entertainment - like Alex Caffi rallying on slicks in a 30-odd year old Porsche? Despite the weather, was weird to see cars braking for the slight curve at Woodcote, though!
If better use of that hour was going to be made then the only two things I would be able to suggest would be either a lunch break for the marshalls and other circuit staff (give the BRSCC more time to decide how to ruin races with safety cars), or have the usual BGT schedule of two single-hour races and hold the first hour race on the sat instead of the CER. However, personally I thought the old cars were great to see - although I am speaking with a somewhat "newbie" tone to my voice (or "typing" tone to my "fingers" if yer really being picky!) |

The race was far too long. Certainly the idea of giving the marshalls a bit of a break would have been good - and maybe we could have had our pits swimabout back.....

Was good to see the cars.... for me coming from New Zealand, it was a chance to see cars you just don't see racing in NZ... and as already mentioned, a great drive on slicks from Alex Caffi, but a poor field compared to what could have been.
Hopefully other rounds of the series don't suffer from the 'Nurburgring' effect and they get a better field. |

A 15 minute display would have been lovely. An hour's lack of racing was not. Shame, some lovely cars, though.

It was a bit of a waste time wasn't it, having said that I think I said the same last year.

To be fair, the conditions weren't favourable to them, but there just weren't enough cars to justify the track time.

Agreed though, it was a bit long for the size of the field. |

With regards to the size of the field, it was disappointing, but the race came alive in the closing laps when everyone was closing on each other was quite interesting. |

Well we walked through the paddock on friday, got to the CER encampment expecting all sorts of wonderfull machinery and I must say a bit disapointed.
GT40 was immaculate though. |

A small field, yes, and not much actual racing.. and what was that gorgeous Capri doing unraced in the paddock- but actually quite entertaining from the infield banking by the campsite. But watching it, I thought, 'I could do that' which never crosses my mind watching prototypes or F3. Doubtless they pay thousands for the privelege - and i would if I could. The drivers of the Porsche 914.6 were clearly having fun. And there was an Osella!! But heritage cars have a place in and around sportscar racing (not just the Vipers and old Lola thing) - you're not obliged to watch them, and I'd go the LMES again even without support races; they only add to the main event for me. I had two sportscar newbies with me who thought they were cool too.
