At what time did you start following Cart/Indy/IRL/USAC? Was it because of an event, a driver something else?

Mine started in 1993 when i was given a few premium grandstand seats for the Gold Coast Indy. Saw Nigel win, and have beenan avid follower since..

I guess Im showing my age but,in the fiftys wide world of sports on ABC was our only source of racing on TV. Daytona,Indy,Monaco was it. My father was the Ambulance driver at a small speedway in Mass. around 1960. As a result I saw a lot of great Jalopie racing in person.Joie Chitwood was the track champion ,by the way.

well, it all started when 'my' christian ran away from f1 (and good on him), and turned up in this funny american series called indycar in 1995. i had a passing interest until 1999, road america to be exact (until then, f1 was enough). then, it escalated until fontana, when i watched my last live race. sadly, coverege leaves a little to be desired, and i'm currently following the series 100% by the internet. it's a very very sad world.
so, the answer is 1995. been watching motor racing since i was a little squirt sat in front of the tv in the 80s.

I remember seeing my first Indy 500 back in 85 (Danny sullivan's spin and win) and have watched it every year since but my first hit of actual series stuff was in 91 when indycars first came to Oz at surfers...watched the race to see what the old F1 drivers were driving like and loved it.
my first full season was 92 when channel 9 started showing coverage out in the bush rather than just the cities and I havent missed a race since.

I grew up with stock cars and used to watch the Indy 500 back in the sixties because that was pretty much all there was. Only started following CART in 1996 as I happened to be in Toronto during a race and thought why not go see what that was all about - bought a $10 general admission ticket and stood in Thunder Alley and was absolutely hooked - although of course that was the year of the Tragedy ...

I like to watch cars go fast. Especially open wheel cars.

When they came to Australia. I knew of it before then but really they only showed Indy 500 before then and even then not every year.

Same as Floid2K. Wide World of Sports; and the mystique of Indy, when even non-fans would listen to the race on the radio at Memorial Day picnics.

I loved anything with wheels and a motor since I was a yuppie larva.

I too was started on auto racing through ABC's Wide World of Sports. Watching the specatcle of Indy with drivers like Foyt, Rutherford, the Unsers, and other names in Indy Car history.

Ditto on the WW of S in the sixties. Started attending races in the late 50's at the old Pebble Beach races & moved on to Laguna Seca when it 1st opened. Saw the 1st Indy car race there in 83 & have gone every year since, plus now that I'm living in the Northwest US I attend Portland. Want to hit Vancouver this year too.
