Genesis GTP / Hypercar: Let’s Foxtrot
https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/...ay-notebook-7/
***Multiple sources have indicated that an announcement from Hyundai regarding a dual FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship program for 2026 has been scheduled for early next month. ***Sportscar365 understands that internal confirmations of the factory program were recently made at Hyundai Motorsport GmbH in Germany as well as the brand’s global base in South Korea and could also include a GT3 project based around a future road-going Genesis-badged sports car. |

Does anyone else get Genesis brand or just US?? Their SUVs look ridiculous but the Hyundai ones weren't bad until the last update

Not in France. Strange enough I had a go to the website and found that the main sales argument for the G80 model is… driver seat adjustable. Prices in Swiss currency. https://www.genesis.com/ch/fr/index.html

Sounds like it's a Go!... All that's left is the details, and we should be finding that out during the announcement meeting.

Sportscar racing just keeps getting better and better - truly the golden age we're getting. Now we just need to get McLaren to commit.
What they should also do is broadcast the races on Youtube for free, globally. Will drastically increase viewership globally. |

Thanks E.B. Funnily enough I spotted a coupé two days ago, French plate. Looks like a Supra.

Hypercar or lmdh?
With Hyundai Motorsport based in Germany maybe they can hire some former Audi people. |

Good point. Hyundai LMDh doesn't have the alliteration though.

I think the rumors were Oreca based lmdh. I hope they decide to take the hypercar route but seems like more manufacturers prefer the "badge-job" lmdh route for it's price.

Price and ease of entry in IMSA, when you want to run both series IMSA regs seem to be the easiest path. Especially if you aren't building your own cars with a proven team/partner

Does Hyundai already pay the IMSA fee for running the Elantras? That would make for easier access to the weather tech series if they do.

I have just been reading this article - https://dirtfish.com/rally/wrc/abite...ffort-in-2026/
It appears that the WRC effort could be taken over by a private team in 2026 this program is look more and more likely. |

Will be interesting to see who will run the cars. Inhouse team (WEC?) or external partner (IMSA?). |

Doubt the Herta guys could run it but maybe some of the Andretti guys can help them out if they don't need all the the WTR folks with the merger/buyout. Or some want to move up in managing a team.
Guess Ganassi has the crew without a car but would Hyundai pay enough for him to take it on? |

Sucks if 26 is just WEC and we have to wait to 27 for an IMSA GTP car. Have to feel it will be Genesis for the US and wouldn't be surprised to see it in WEC too

Makes sense to use same brand for both series.
Currently the Genesis brand is unknown to the general public in Europe. I prefer they use the Hyundai brand. |

If they win the wrc title(s) this year I think it can go either way for them there but I expect it to have positive impact from Hyundai. That might help with selling the project or having some blessings to the next group running it. That should be a positive for the hypercar too as they'll want to succeed elsewhere after winning in another motorsport category.

I doubt they will sell it, more likely if Neuville wins it, he defends for a year then takes it over, he has been there since the start, leaving Abiteboul to go into IMSA and WEC, a more fitting place for a circuit man!!
They must have spent hundreds of millions on WRC to still never win it is laughable!! |

Now confirmed they are going to enter under the Genesis brand. They will appear in both IMSA and WEC.
https://www.dailysportscar.com/2024/...programme.html This is great news if you ask me. |
