Lamborghini Gallardo For Aus GT ??
http://www.australiancardirectory.co...etails&id=2624
Just reading TLA's involvment in the 2005 Targa Tasmania event with Paul Stokell and Stuart Appelby, but the most exciting part of the article is the Lamborghini Gallardo the team will be running. The looks amazing and should hopefully run the same. The car backed by Crazy Johns, who sponosred the in Nations Cup between 2001 - 2003. This article got me thinking though, TLA in their press release late last year stated they would run the Diablo in the GT Championship 2005. Considering that the Gallardo's are now in Aus for Targa, could stick around for the rest of the year. Last edited by D.R.T.; 13 Mar 2005 at 04:21. |

It's only a road car with some stickers on it so don't get too excited.
Although you'd think they'd have to do something about replacing the aging Diablo's. Lamborghini isn't too happy about them still being raced as a factory team. |

It was at the Melb motor show, No indication it was anything other than a Targa car

I was told Appleby bought it - small change for a golfer of his status.

I couldn't resist this little gem of a quote from Smiffy....
“I have no doubt the Gallardo can hold its own amongst the competition field; there is no one in the world that can drive a Lamborghini faster than Paul Stokell.” Yeah right ...apart from Allan Simonsen in his first ever drive of the car......!! Paul's great though, it's Smiffy that cracks me up! |

A GT3 homologated Gallardo?
Here we go again, making up eligibility lists. |

The SVR Diablo fits into Fia GT3 regs.
GT3 is for more production based GT cars, which is what the Gallrdo sitting in the TLA workshops is at the moment. |

But it's not homologated.

Right, so why does the FIA feel compelled to publish documents like this.
http://www.fia.com/resources/documen...ion_Number.pdf If you turn up with a 5L V10 4WD mostrosity then you might as well bring back the Monaro just to even things up. |

The way i understand it is similiar to say, what the BTCC is doing this year regarding Super 2000 spec cars.
You must build a car, in this case a Super 2000-spec car, to the FIA rules, however there is no need for the car to be officially homologated by the FIA. You still need the right number of cars built etc... just all the paperwork doesn't have to go to France (or are they still based in Switzerland?). The car however cannot be used anywhere bar the BTCC, as it's not FIA homologated. This is i assume a way of getting cars into the Australian GT Championship (providing something happens, it's been awfully quiet of late). They still fully meet FIA rules, just not the paperwork. However the cars could only be used in Australia, and not in any FIA GT Championship or whatever round (unless they run an 'Australian' class at Phillip Island, like they did at the Sandown WEC in 1984) |

Rubbish, if you turn up with an un-homologated car to any FIA GT event you'll be shown the front gate.
And how the hell does a Gallardo comply with the regs? |

There is a precedent in FIA regulations for the GT Championship allowing unhomologated cars to race (for no points).
eg....The Spa 24 Hours round of the FIA GT Championship, where last year Schnitzer ran the BMW M3 GTR's in an invitation class. |

Look at these results. http://www.gtfestival.com/results.php Cars from this event such as the Lamborghini Diablo, Mosler are not homoligated in GT2 regs, under the link you provided earlier. Ie. They weren't shown the gate, they were welcomed. |

TLA have stated they will compete in the Aus GT Championship in 2005. If there are two vehicles in the garage, could they be used ? I was more hypothesising, hoping than passing on facts. I no more in the know than anyone else here ? Just a GT fan looking ofward to seeing some nice vehicles. White Knight, the rules aren't make them up as you go along. The GT2, GT3 rules are written to allow teams/manufacters to compete around the world, without having to outlay the huge amount of $$$$ to have a car homologated with the FIA. No more vehicles along the lines of a Monaro can be built. |
