World Rallycross Championship 2016
First bit of news for the 2016 season, Latvia will be added to the Championship in 2016:
http://www.fiaworldrallycross.com/ar...-to-2016-world Does this mean more rounds for 2016, or are some of the current round(s) going to get the chop? |

One big driver means any country gets a round! Latvia is really into motorsport at the moment, they have some big rallies and are massively into motocross.
No surprise at all that having a few drivers they get a round, it seems to be the golden ticket to get rounds rather than any level of interest or popularity. And having a promoter who is of course happy to hand over the tens of thousands in hosting fees for the Scandinavian (world) rally cross series |

I think that it will involve significantly less travelling than Portugal for the scandanavia drivers (most of which will be via a ferry) who make up about 70% of the grid. Not ideal for Brits or the French of course. But the track looks good and Riga is a very fun weekend away

How many rounds in 2016 then? Will Hockenheim be on the calendar in 2016? Finland Kouvola make a return? One in one out? Africa, Asia or Australasia?

Question 2: I bet IMG is still interested. Wonder if DTM or Hockenheim is... Question 3: http://www.fiaworldrallycross.com/ar...ropped-in-2015 With Latvia in I guess the chance for Finland (even with a new venue) is smaller now... Question 5: I expect Australia to join in 2017. |

I would think the tracks signed up now have had to sign a multi year deal. They will see if its worth it then either drop out or sign up again for a no doubt bigger fee.
So I guess Germany might still have two, doing all that groundwork would have cost a bit. But IMG will not wnat two german roudns, they would prefer Kenya or something stupid like that where they cal seel cameras and diabetes in a can. FThere were supposed to be racing in Oz this year were they not? But hasnt it floundered? |

Looks like Andrew Jordan won't be making a full time move to rallycross any time soon:

I very much doubt he would want to commit to rallycross until much later in his life to be honest
I think he sees his future in a far bigger series like DTM or perhaps sports cars. He loves rallycross, but realistically only did it initially because it allowed him to compete at a younger age, time was on his side and he enhoyed it so much he decided to move into the top levels, won at a canter and moved on. For me his best bet right now in rallycross is to oust the "the non voice of rallycross" and be the sole commentator as he does a much, much better job. Honestly a talent that good should be in something bigger like DTM or sportscars. BTCC is about the best he can do in the UK. He was racing a National Hot Rod last month at Ipswich with some other BTCC guys, did OK as you might expect. |

A bit more about Galli and the Kia:
http://www.fiaworldrallycross.com/ar...li-and-kia-rio Has to be said that it's not the worst looking car is it? The colour scheme looks very 'Ford WRC' though doesn't it? |

It's a nice looking car.
No backing from Kia Italy? Would like to know more background info. Is it inhouse built? Who did the engine? One thing I don't understand. They used the Rio 1.1L diesel for homologation, but isn't this model 5 doors? Why the diesel version? |

Marklund Motorsport, Münnichs and Petter Solberg also uses UNIC transmission. Out of the 35 cars in Höljes 12 were using their transmissions, but I'm not sure on all the cars which does use them. |

Used to be Gunnarrson was the main place, but I imagine someone is being groomedto compete with them.
Most of the cars have identikit trannys and engines really, it's the same as WRC just more power. there is not really anyine being different like Stecka did with the 5 cylinder, I suppose the Mini is a bit different as is Per's Beetle using a 1.6 engine. But nothing out of the ordinary, perfect FIA identikit racing really! |
