http://www.cart.com/News/Article.asp?ID=7525
I know we already knew this, but the official announcement has been made, and there is a long interview there too. |

Nowhere in the article does it state if RuSport will be a stand-alone team, or if they are going to line up with an existing team. Does anybody know?

I imagine it hasn't been determined yet, and if there are plans for a 2 car team, the deal isn't set in stone yet and for whatever reason we are waiting for an announcement. I think Rusport and AJ would greatly benifit from running a two car team, especially if an experience driver was brought in to bring AJ up to speed, pun intended(for some reason I don't think that will be much of a problem though). Jimmy would do well with Rusport. We know Carl Russo has the money to run a top notch team with good equipment, thats what Jimmy said he wanted for this year.

If Jimmy is going to PKR, then maybe Mika Salo could join RuSport Racing and help out young AJ! Btw, thanks for the article, JJ! It's great to hear when things are confirmed from Cart.com! I just thought of another idea and I know it's probably way out there, but what if AJ joined Forsythe Racing as the third driver?! Everybody knows that PT has been helping out AJ so far with his career, so why not continue that in ChampCars?! Unless of course it distracts Paul from achieving his own goals during the season?! It sure would be an interesting team.....maybe RuSport and Forsythe Racing could run out of the same stable???

Great stuff. AJ certainly deserves this opportunity, hopefully he'll have a successful year just like RHR last year.
Isn't this wonderful, all this positive news coming out now! |

Good that it's finalized, but nothing was exactly unexpected. As was mentioned, will RuSport be stand alone or part of another team? Who are the sponsors, etc...

Man, we need annother 3 car team - they were, as I like to call them "too hardcore".
Its good o see that we've got a topnotch driver not going to NASCAR or IRL |

Congratulations to AJ, sure to be a great addition to the field. Rumours suggested that they will run on their own as a one-car team (perhaps using half of Patrick's old equipment), but you're right that a team-mate, or running as a satellite operation, would help them more.
I'm not too keen on three-car teams because they have a tendency to dominate races in terms of team-orders, and the internal politics when a third car has seperate management and sponsorship to the existing two can give the new guy the short straw. |

This really is great news, even if it is only confirmation of what was suspected / expected.

The interview with Anthony James Allmendinger was also a good read. Does anyone else get the feeling that AJ is going to be a fan-favourite? |

A fan-favourite? I don't think there is any question about it as long he keeps his car out of the others and performs relatively well. I fully expect him to do this. He may even make my fantasy team but I don't want to jinx him. Last edited by Flatspot; 20 Feb 2004 at 17:34. |

Great news! I was sure hoping that RuSPORT was going to be able to make the jump to Champ Cars. I expect we will see great things from A.J. over the next few years. These are the kind of announcements that I've been waiting for.
