Dave Richards Post Race Comments

I am not sure if this has been mentioned else where, but did anyone else hear Dave Richards comments on Radio Le Mans about 15 mins after the end of the race.

He said "We still have got a few things to achieve at Le Mans - including an outright win" Now what does that mean a closed Aston in 2009?

Another thing that crossed my mind was that another british member of the Ford stable has just gone up for sale. Well it makes you think.....

Could be just a Prodrive built costmer LMP1 chassis, instead of a manufacturer backed deal?

Or an Aston Martin engine supply program?

he wants to make Aston an F1 team by 2009, to follow his F1 effort. i doubt his pockets are THAT deep.

Does he? Everything he has said goes against this. There are loads of stories that he does not want to take Aston to F1 in the near and not so near future.

His comment at Le Mans was interesting and I think that Le Mans is much more suitable for this low volume manufacturer. For the bigger car manufacturers (and Ferrari) F1 is better because, despite the large outlay, it reaches so many people. Le Mans is much better suited to marques like Aston.

It suprises me that he wants a LMP car, but it makes more sense than F1.

Or maybe he is just playing with the idea and wanted to tease.

Listen to DR comments, he has said more than a few times in more than a few mags that Aston has no place in F1, they are a sportscar/GT company and their focus will be there. Would not be surprised to see AMR factory team targeting the 2010 rules and then customer cars after, as in the DBR9 program.

Prodrive won't expect to sell many more GT1 cars, if any.

With doubts over GT1's future, an Aston P1 could fill the void.

The ACO couldn't have made their views any clearer when they showed the concept drawing of the 'Corvette' P1 coupe.

The DBRS9's also the ideal base for a GT2 type car, so all bases are covered.

I'm just repeating what i read in Autosport a while ago.
I stand corrected.
It does make a lot more sense this way

I did hear this on RLM after the race, made for some intriguing thoughts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was definitely referring to Aston Martin rather than Prodrive when he said "We still have got a few things to achieve at Le Mans - including an outright win"...?

I believe he was speaking with his Aston hat rather than the Prodrive one at the time......Missed the actual RLM interview as was trying to get the car out of Arnage car park at the time

Motoring News (sic) has gone mad for it. However their article contains little more than the comment rdjones quotes and the LMP1 cars to look more like road cars idea.

Jonathan Palmer told me in the AMR hospitality unit that he was hoping to set up a new team in LMP1 with a new manufacturer. He coulda been putting me on but...

LOTS of stuff happening behind the scenes but I think it will be a three way fight next year - TORA TORA TORA - and not just between marques but also propulsion types.

Has the ACO said anything about Hybrids? I know Zytek wants to go that way, and I would think the option would appeal to two manufacturers who don't seem to be going anywhere in the series the are in now. One of them already has a color scheme concept that would seem to keep in the concept of a Hybrid endurance sports car...
