Mexico City Attendance Projections Confused
I don't have any idea what all this means, but.........
John Rice is the AP writer in Mexico City who has covered all the races down there. This is his advance story, saying promoters expect 300,000 for three days. http://www.autonet.ca/Motorsports/St...287003-ap.html Now, John Oreowicz, who has also covered several Mexico City races, writes 200,000 and writes that promoters have said advance sales are "up." http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/s...art&id=2211644 ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? |

I seem to recall a 5 page discussion on the Mexico attendance topic which you started on another forum! We aren't that sheltered, are we? |

Yes, I started it with Rice's story a few days ago, and that discussion is still going, too, except the last couple pages are off topic. Oreo's tied to CC's editorial writers. Why would he "call it" lowball, yet say advance sales are up? Rice has covered all the Mexico City races and IIRC, he has consistently put Race Day attendance at 100,000 or more.In the past, we've seen projections as high as 500,000 for the weekend. I looked at Mexico City newspaper websites this morning and really didn't find much about the race and one story I found was as much about Milka Duno and Luis Diaz in Grand Am as CC. So, yes, that's why I'm confused. What do you make of it?

Unreliable media. Media sources often mess up numerical points.
eg. My local paper today they said that including 10% ethanol in petrolium would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. That's clearly impossible, what they really ment was that in the 10% component there is a 50% reduction in greenhouse emissions. |

All of those numbers look pretty big to me.

I'd rather wait for the conclusion of the event before casting judgement on the crowd figures.

I think you guys know I'm not a D&Ger, but I'm certain this year's numbers are down substantially. Recall that in the past the race day numbers were in the 200ks, rather than the 3 day weekend. There were entire stands on the slow part of the course that were completely empty.
Timo Glock should be shot. There's one guy who could not be taken out and Timo rammed that guy. I have been really disappointed in Dominguez this year, but I was hoping he'd do well to help revive the Mexican CC fevor. |

Announcements were 402,000 in '03, 345,000 in '04.

Any guesses as to the day-by-day of that 270k?

From what I understand is that the Mexican Gov. owns the land and Forsythe has the promotional rights. Part of the seating was taken down as the Gov. is planning some sort of development in the area. Forsythe is supposedly negotiating to have more grandstands erected elsewhere for next season.
Can you imagine if Dominguez gets up to championship contention calibre? Mexico City would be insane. The boy has potential, I think he can do it. |

I would be insane If he was in the position to clinch the championship at Mexico City next year even I would fly down there for the race instead of for the holidays. But hopefully Mario can keep his ride at Forthsye, cause i'm sure it would help him alot knowing he has a ride. Mario for sure is my dark horse pick for champion next year.
