Jordan-Toyota?
"Jordan might be Toyota-powered in 2005. Authoritative website grandprix.com reports that Eddie Jordan has commenced negotiations with the Cologne-based outfit for a new V10 engine/gearbox deal.
It may also include aerodynamic consultancy. One of the first observations of Toyota's new tech director, Mike Gascoyne, when he joined the team was that the RVX-04 is one of the best engines in pitlane. 'It's also incredibly reliable,' the Briton added." I guess Toyota really does want to resemble the Ferrari paddock. Ferrari has Sauber. Will Toyota now have Jordan? That would certaintly shake things up in pit lane a few years down the road. Eddie has shown he can make a decent car...just needs some power because the Ford Cosworth isn't cutting it. Now the next question....would Jordan switch to Michelins? Last edited by dcp2685; 7 Apr 2004 at 11:56. |

What would Toyota gain - more testing options and data?

It's rumour, but to be honest isn't EJ always looking for the next best thing? All his engine partnerships have been trumpeted as THE best thing for Jordan.
The works Honda deal was supposed to be the making of Jordan and lest we forget the predictions EJ lavished on his 'works' Ford deal.... Sauber are a good example of where bolting the best bits available onto a car does not neccesarily improve performance. I can't see why Toyota would bend over backwards to help EJ when they have plenty of their own troubles to sort out. Wishfull thinking? |

If I was EJ, I would hope that Max et al, change the rules to allow customer chassis aswell and then go the whole hog with Toyota Chassis, Engine & Michelins.
Advantage to Jordan: Much Cheaper Budget Required Advantage to Toyota: More development can be done in order to push themselves up the grid. Win win solution I would say. Im sure Peter Sauber would do the same thing with Ferrari if the rules allowed..... and its been hinted at by Max and Co. |

I'm not sure Mercedes were all that serious about customer engines, certainly on current progress it's the last thing they need to be involved with.

Yeah, you can buy a generic box of hand grenades for much less than the 20 million a year Mercedes charges... Last edited by shiny side up!; 7 Apr 2004 at 14:20. |

Jordan and Toyota?
Going by reports Eddie Jordan has entered talks with Toyota to supply engines next year. The only conclusions you can draw from this are that the Cosworth customer engine is not as strong as Jags and the price is probably to high.
Given that the Toyota engine is ruputed to have the most power this could be a good move. The Grumpy1 nearly forgot the link www.f1live.com |

It is a real shame that Jordan can not attract some sort of manufacture support, lets face it as long as you have customer engines you will be battling for the scraps (rare exceptions like last years brazillian GP) |

If ej is in talks with toyota id expect it to just rattle ford. They depend on the few million they get from jordan and i expect ejs just trying to get a better deal with them. Going by grand prix .com they suggest there will be some form of aero consultation too. This i cant understand as jordan probably have better aerodynamics at the moment and there is nothing toyota can help them with.

Imo, whilst the engine isn't everything, chassis and aero have to be taken into account, Eddie won't be losing anything by swapping to a Toyota engine. (If it happens) |

Well, reputedly the cossie is a compact motor, so there will be a tradeoff somewhere. It's never cut and dried, these things.

This would make sense for both parties, as long as Eddie cna find the funding to complete the deal. Being able to sell the prospect of runing with F1's best or second-best engine is good for his marketing.

Well this would give jordan more than a fighting chance of 8th in the constructors table....
Their weakness is aerodynamics and, quite honestly, I can't see Toyota helping Jordan out with that until they are a frontrunner themselves. |
