2008 schedule, second half - from San Jose Rumor Mill
Fellows,
Don't be surprised if the 2008 Champ Car schedule presents a few rearrangements, particularly concerning the distribution of races throughout the year and several date switches. It appears that Champ Cars is considering a second half of the season where races would be first held in Europe (during the summer; three dates are "reserved" but no venues are associated to them; it is expected that the events in Assen and Zolder will be repeated), followed by a North American leg (with two American or one American and one Canadian or Mexican race; the future of the Mexico City race is so-so and it may well be jettisoned from the calendar...) and then by an excursion to Asia. It appears that three dates are being "reserved" for Asia - China, Australia and... possibly New Zealand (in this tentative sequence). Once again, this is Rumor Mill Radio so please take it from a grain of salt. But the sources are good. Cheers, Muzza |

In Edmonton, someone asked a Champ Car official about the 2008 schedule. His term for it was "creative".
I am expecting Vegas and Phoenix to switch places for '08 (so Phoenix will have two events within six months) and Long Beach keeps its early April date. Beyond that it's all open. keke |

Vegas wanted the races to bring in money on one of it's slowest week end: Easter.

I think it would be pretty interesting if Champ Car can do a repeat race...like IRL has done with Texas.

The schedule was a mess this year and I heard 2 months ago such was duly noted and it would be fixed for next year. Hope so. I note with interest the New Zealand race. Has my banging the spoon on the table for Taupo been heard?
We have the Canadian Triple Crown. How about the Tasman series? |

Have you heard when they are coming out with the '08 schedule?

Very simple 3 things I want to see (in order of liklehood):
A) No stupidly long gaps B) No "subject to the tooth fairy" a la Korea, China or that Jack(crack)pot race that was planned once. C) At least ONE oval (probably one of the main reasons any european fan got into US racing - diversity of tracks) |

If you want to watch oval racing, I can recommend: NASCAR, IRL and horses.
Consult your local listings. |

How about dogs courageous? they do dogs in Florida, oval too. They just chase a little mechanical bunny round and round, not two many pile up though

What was this jackpot race you mentioned? and How would the current chassis work on an oval? Is it adaptable? I'l add my own wishes 1) I'd like a return to rolling starts. They did it in the hayday, and i didn't see a point in changing that aspect of the series. 2) Slight revision of the points system. Top 10 scoring only |

Don't drop Mt. Tremblant (ever). I can cope with whatever else comes (or doesn't) if you promise to never ever drop this magnificent track.
Just abandon horrible street courses made of nothing but right-angle turns (San Jose springs to mind as an excellent example). The likes of Long Beach and Toronto are fine, as they are in some way interesting. Keep standing starts (I just prefer them, plus it gives CC a uniqueness in NAm). At least one oval, please. Feel free to provide more like 3 or 4. There are some uninspiring venues that I would happily see gone for an oval or three. Last edited by Dutton; 7 Aug 2007 at 07:34. |

Ummm, if "that other series" doesn't want MIS, could we please have it back? I miss living on Gatorade in the 98F and 98% humidity weather, and dodging the cops in Clinton and Saline.
Yes, I know this isn't happening with the DP01 -- I don't even think the chassis is rated for oval use. But could I dream a little? keke |

The DP01 was built to race on oval too, but it was built extra strong to tollerate street racing witch is more demanding.

Groovy. Develop it, then.
The only obstacle in the way of oval events is, as we know, the CC-Powers-That-Be. I reckon the return of an oval or two would be pretty popular with the CC audience. Anyone got any thoughts? |
