2 day meetings signing on procedure

At many bike meetings it is only necessary to sign on,when you arrive on day 1.
However as we all know for cars you have to still get to the circuit early on day 2 and join that queue again, to only end up where you were on day 1.
If they want to know your attendance or hand out some petrol money, why can't this be done on post on day 2, either by the I/O or the Observer.
I am sure a lot of us would prefer that system.

I believe the system is as it is so that the Chief Marshal can allocate marshals to respective posts. All to often marshals volunteer for a two day meeting but fail to turn up one of the days. As a result this can lead to posts being undermanned.

I hope that explains in some way why you have to sign on each day?

As Stephen says, it's mainly to confirm who's there. Not just lower numbers, but allocating the extra 'non qualifying day' people to posts.

Also there may be things the CM wants to say in the raceday briefing, that might get chinese whisper syndrome if passed through the IOs etc.

At all BEMSEE bike meetings we always sign on each day, is this an exception in the bike world then?

Yes, but it's good for us trainees, as the briefings often have useful 'no-brainer' information in them, like where the track is.

The only meetings, car or bike, where I haven't had to sign on each day have been BSB.

Most North American meeting adopt the first day sign on, or registration, which covers the insurance requirements. At major meetings this is often done the day before as well to avoid queues.
However they also have a compulsary breifing each morning for all marshals, and similar debrief each evening. These are accompanied by food - free! and usually at de-breif a raffle, which has enough prizes that everyone gets some token, while major prices are often quite valuable.

i've only done a couple of 2 day meetings as im fairly new to marshalling but at Snetterton everyone moved to the next post up, unfortunatly that meant i was on the start/finish strait for the GTs. But luckily last weekend i was at the bomb-hole on saturday and Corumn on Sunday, i've only got Richies, Corumn and the Revit strait until i've done them all.

Manxcoastracing should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

At the TT Races , majority of local marshals would sign on at various meetings in the week prior to the start of practices and this covers all the sessions they wish to marshal for and locations on the course .Visiting marshals would normally sign on upon arriving at post with the sector chief marshal .With between 500 and possibly up to 1000 marshals on the 37.73 mile course , daily sign ons are kind of impractical .Having been present at the Mondello Park round of the BTCC though however , daily sign ons are the only way to ensure proper coverage and continuity of imformation/procedure changes .
