Dyson Reynard
I was flipping through an old RACER the other day and saw a photo of Weaver testing the Reynard in Daytona test days.
Very little was given out in that reprot but it said underneath the headline someting like "The team were very pleased with the car's performance, butDyson's new Reynard will sit out the Daytona 24 Hours while some reliability problems are sorted out". 1. Was the team really pleased with how the car ran, was it fast? I don't have the test times. 2. Did they ever intend to actually run the Reynard ever again? |

That was their PR speak. Apparently the car was so bad they sent it back to the factory and cancelled the second car they had on order.

basically the debut version of the reynard 2kq sucked real bad. aero balance was bad as well as chassis flex and i really dont blame dyson for scrapping the program, i would have if i were in his shoes.

In Mulsanne´s corner website there are some very nice comments on the evolution of the 2KQ, from the daytona version to the le mans version the car was abruptly changed. It is curious that, as a LMP900 it didn´t suceeded but as LMP675 was a hit with the VW engine.
Anyhow, you can´t deny that, despite of the chassis problems from the beginnings, it has been racing in various forms since 2000 until 2004... |

They had intended to run this car in the ALMS in 2000 but cancelled those plans when the car proved to be junk.

Thanks, I was well aware of the severe problems that happened on the debut version and the transformation that happened with Stroud and his team, I just wasn't aware if Dyson were actually happy with the car like the article said or if, like Lioustheshark said, it was just PR, which apparently it was.
