Battery replacement
Simple/stupid question :confused:but please help
I need to replace the battery in my 205 so was going to go for one of the red tops. My mech is away at the moment so cant ask him which one to get. I run short races i.e circa 3m with enough time in between to recharge. do I just go for the smallest one they do because of the race length and engine size or will this hinder engine performance. I have also heard you can use 12v Bike batterys but this sound worrying . Any thoughts welcome as engine bays not a freindly place for me. |

I know some top fuel boat racers that use motorcycle batteries for their 500 cid blown V8s, but they all use magnetos for ignition and have no other electrical drains other than a solenoid for the air shifter, telemetry gear and the tachometer.
You might look into an Optima battery. They are expensive racing cells, but are half the size of a similarly powerful battery and can be mounted anywhere, even upside down. |

Do you need to use the battery to start the car or can you plug in a slave? If you can use a slave then go for the smallest red top 8 (7AH). The ignition and pump will use very little in 3 miles. If you need it to start the car then you will need something a bit bigger say 15 (14AH) at about 5kg - about 70 or £80 from Raceparts, Wallingford. |
