SKG's tracks

Hello everyone!

I've been looking through these forum posts for a while now and I thought I should post some of my efforts. I've not been doing this for very long so ive only got a couple of tracks to show.

This is the first one. It runs clockwise, and I cant exactly remember the length, about 3km I think. The track width is 12m, ideally I'd like this circuit to be slightly longer, a lesson learnt.

See what you think.

Welcome along.

A couple of obvious missing gravel traps and things but overall a very nice first effort.

If as you say you've learnt from doing that one, I look forward to the next one and many more.

SpeedingTortoise should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Welcome. This is a good first effort with a good balance between speed and technical sections. I also like how after every long straight there is a good overtaking opportunity. There are a few concerns with run off particularly the 130R-esque T14, and it also seems a bit short at 3km/1.8mi it looks to me to be about 4km/2.5mi. However, this is still a strong first track and im looking forward to see more from you.

Yeah, that part needs some alteration, there isnt much room to work with but i'll see what I can do. Thanks for replying!

This is what I came up with. The last sector has had a facelift, with turn 12 smoothed, allowing for space for a concrete run off area. I also removed turn 14 as it seemed to dangerous. There is also a larger gravel trap down into the new turn 15.

Great track...

before you took out the fun parts!
There was enough room to add runoff, it made the track so much more varied.

Great job, thank you

Ok. The circuit has been returned to its original configuration, and Ive squeezed in the required runoffs at the 2 fast corners.

Great track. With 3km it is a bit short, making it very twisty. That would make it ideal for touringcars, Formula Ford etc.
On the safetyside, the exit of the last corner is pretty dangerous. If you go just a littlebit wide, you are going head-on into a wall.
I am really curious wheather you have thought about things like grandstands, a tunnel or bridge to give acces to the pit and more of that stuff.

Yeah, thats just how long it turned out to be after building it. I think 4km would suit this circuit. I'll give some more details a go, it will take a while tho.

Will upload another track soon =D

Updated with Grandstand, access tunnel and inner service roads.

I also included the original sketch of the track, so you can see how its developed.

Starting fresh

Starting on my old thread again!

This new, unnamed, unfinished track has 5 different configurations. However, it is not possible to run more than one config at one time. I have learned from this and I will give it more thought in future projects, but I wont be changing the layout of this track. It has two pitlanes. the 2nd smaller pitlane on the infield section has no buildings (at the moment) and tents or awnings would be set up for smaller races/events if needed.

6 (not 5!) configurations. The shortest configuration is run anticlockwise, all others are run clockwise.

The chicane on the back stretch is optional and can be used if needed/appropriate.

There's a slight "Tilkesque" feel to it that I like.

That wasnt really intended but Im glad you like it. Im more of a croft or cadwell park kinda guy.

I've re-profiled the first corner and pit lane exits. This was to create a bigger braking zone and a better overtaking opportunity at the end of the start/finish straight.

This change also affected first corner, making it an early-apex corner which progressively opens. I like this change and creates a more challenging turn 2.

Ive just had an idea, and whipped a few sketches. A banked oval with two infield road courses. The short course is simple and rejoins the oval before "pit road". The long course, however, turns right and dips through a tunnel under the banking. There is an outfield section before rejoining the oval on the "back stretch", making it a figure of 8 course.

What do you guys think? Is it worth continuing with?

Also, can anyone help me out with banked turns on sketchup? I cant get my head around it!

That's a great combination there. The oval is amazing on its own, too.
I'd just recommend removing one of the chicanes from the infield section for a better flow of the track and put it into the oval Turn 1 because some series will not want to run that turn. And the tunnel should have a straight going through underneath the oval, for safety reasons, not a corner.
Apart from that, it's a very good effort. Thank you for posting it.

Thanks Yannick. I have changed the configuration of the outfield section (I felt is was a bit left-right-left-right before) and there is now a faster run to rejoin the oval, which I like. I also adjusted the infield section slightly to remove the chicane and make the entrance to the tunnel safer. I moved the chicane down to the apron near turn 1 so it does not have to be run.

Oh, and I kinda figured out the banking too!

I dont think Im gonna do any more on this project, but let me know what you think

Thanks Bio. Here's another.

THe South circuit chicane. There needs to run off where the current barrier is.

Yes Sir!

Added gravel to the outside of the south circuit chicane.
I've started to add more detail to the model (Pit building, Marshall's posts etc.).
Also, I've added a bridge over the pit entry and final corner for access to the paddock
